‼️ Maldives has never defaulted in its history because of unpaid debt so why is Muizzu endlessly talking about debt repayment as if it's a huge achievement? Govt is celebrating paying off a major debt repayment but what was the actual tactic the govt used to pay this debt? No previous govt has ever been desperate enough to use BML as a cash cow for "budget support" not even during the worst days of the Covid crisis but Muizzu saw this as a good opportunity and took USD from BML as budget support to make these repayments meaning they're taking budget support from BML but ultimately using that support to pay off debt. ⚠️ Let's look into the damage ordinary citizens suffered because of this; ▫️USD shortage facing the public and every single business today is just because the USD held by BML was used for budget support which disrupted the USD services provided by BML and forced everyone to face a USD shortage. ▫️What CEO Shareef did was delay TTs and slash limits, he had no choice but to cut down the card limits that individuals had all this time, he had to slash USD usage for students and also every other USD related service was limited/suspended ▫️Muizzu can spin these repayments as a victory all he wants but local businesses and individuals are crushed by the fallout after 2 and a half years of looting and zero preparation they "panicked" when the repayments came due and had no choice but to use BML Debt is just a cycle passed from one administration to another as soon as grace periods expire, previous governments have always quietly paid off debts inherited from preceding regimes and whatever administration was in power simply cleared major repayment as they matured Even when the global pandemic paralyzed the entire world economy @ibusolih government still managed to honor its debt obligations and safely restructured payments to ensure the country never faced default ⚠️ This is not a hard won success story of two and a half years, this is a catastrophic failure of basic governance because @MMuizzu did not know how to run a govt and inflicted massive losses on the citizens through his complete lack of comprehensive policies.
