Decolonization does not mean...a total rejection of all theory or research or Western knowledge...it is about centring our concerns & world views and then coming to know and understand theory & research from our own perspectives and for our own purposes. —Linda Tuhiwai Smith

We put so much pressure on children to progress successfully at a uniform rate. Yet ~ 60% of college students do NOT graduate in 4 yrs. And there is no real uniform time-line for success as adults.

Very proud of the new ‘Mini Libraries’ I’m piloting for some of our teachers - they contain a custom selection of books and a folder of relevant articles that they can deploy when pupils need some extended reading time in class #schoollibraries #reading #schoollibrariesmatter

I sometimes don’t think that people realise we teach lessons all day and then we have to find the time to mark the work they’ve done/assessments and plan for the next lessons. But…we’ve been teaching all day.

Hello from Laikipia! Swaggering up to the Voi Stockades to visit with the Keepers & dependent herd. Orphaned in 1999 - his mother a drought victim - he was terribly thin & weak. Seeing him today, an impressive, 24 yr old bull; that's what your support helps us achieve 4🐘

Classroom management is really just the awkward realization that you have dozens of students in your classroom who could start a revolution at any moment should they decide to fight for common cause against the perceived authority. Social disorder.

Another idea I’ve seen and love is “First Chapter Fridays” read the first chapter of a new book every Friday and maybe it grabs the attention of a student who wouldn’t normally pick that book

Read-aloud theme weeks are a great way to get students excited about reading. Whether it's spooky stories during the week of Halloween or something else, have fun with it! edutopia.org/article/build-…

My daughter received a D in PE for running a mile in 10.40, and not the national standard of 8.32. She wasn’t even a runner, her first time was 14 minutes, dropping by 4 minutes is huge. They should score on progress not some standard. This is how a child’s spirit is destroyed.
