My first glimpse of the Vande Bharat sleeper train set - snazzy colours and good design though there's need for some crucial improvements - 3A coach (1st 2 photos), 2A and 1A coach; quality of furnishing and lighting is very good! 🧵 #IndianRailways #VandeBharat @devasissarangi

The beauty of the Kangra valley rail line with an evening service towards Kangra passing by somewhere near Palampur! The Kangra Valley Railway is a 164 km (102 mi) scenic narrow-gauge line connecting Pathankot, Punjab, to Joginder Nagar, Himachal Pradesh, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges and lush tea gardens. Built in 1929, this "toy train" line is a heritage marvel featuring quaint stations, serving as a vital transport link. It is one of the most scenic train routes in India. The stations are designed as cottages with wooden roofs and verandahs, maintaining a charming, historic aesthetic. The are the greats of Indian cricket in one frame. All from Mumbai. This is from an era when cricket was played for the love of the game and are playing cards during their free time. The man with is back to the camera and wearing a pajama is Ramakant Desai, one of India fastest bowlers of his era. To his left is Bapu Nadkarni, India’s greatest spinner who bowled 21 maiden overs on the trot. Next to him is Mumbai opener Sudhakar Adhikari. Then Polly Umrigar, India’s Captain and the first double centurion of Indian Test cricket. Next to him is Ajit Wadekar, the man who won India their first series abroad against West Indies in 1971. And the last man is Sharad Diwadkar, Mumbai all rounder and later an administrator. #Cricket #TeamIndia #legends #memories

Another Pune memory captured - Budhani Waferwala, and picked up a packet of chips that we used to relish! We used to visit the outlet almost every month when we were in Pune from 2011-13. And on the way back, memories of our visits to Touche - the Sizzler, Ramakrishna, and of course, Dorabjee's, got refreshed. Missed having Garden Vada Pav yesterday. Would probably pick up before we leave this evening. We realised that two days in Pune is such a short period. #Pune #memories @nitinwelde

Visited the Kasba Ganapati temple for the first time, and came to know about its rich history. 🙏 Kasba Ganapati Temple, built around 1630 by Queen Jijabai (mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj), is one of Pune’s oldest and most revered temples. As the Gram Daivat (presiding deity) of Pune, it holds the first position of honor ("Manacha Ganapati") in the city's Ganesh festival. The idol was found near the residential area of Vinayak Bhatt Thakar, a migrant from Karnataka, in the early 17th century. Recognizing its significance, Jijabai commissioned the temple to be built at this site, marking a pivotal moment in Pune's cultural and religious history. It was regarded as the "Gram Daivat" (village deity) of Pune, believed to be the protector of the city. When Lokmanya Tilak began the public Ganesh festival in 1893, he accorded the Kasba Ganapati the honor of being the first and most important deity, a tradition that continues to this day. The temple, located in Kasba Peth, blends traditional Maratha and stone architecture, featuring a Garbha Griha (sanctum sanctorum) that has been preserved over centuries. The temple's establishment is often linked to the early days of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his mother, Jijabai, settling in Pune. The temple remains a focal point of worship and is celebrated with immense fervor during Ganesh Chaturthi. #Pune #temple #history

Indian general store, Tabora, German East Africa (now Tanzania). The woman on the left is operating a Singer sewing machine— circa 1910. The Indian community in Tanzania, numbering over 60,000 citizens, has a deep-rooted history dating back centuries via maritime trade, with significant migration during the British colonial era. Predominantly of Gujarati origin, they established themselves as vital commercial traders (dukawallas) and in administration. The community grew with railway construction and the colonial administration, establishing themselves in trading hubs. Despite comprising only 0.2% of the population, Indian-Tanzanians have a high stake in commercial trading, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship, often owning significant shares of local companies. Gujarati is widely spoken, and many Swahili words are derived from Indian languages. The community is diverse and Includes includes Hindu ( Arya Samaj, local Hindu Unions), Shia Muslim sects (such as Ismaili and Khoja), and others. They continue to maintain community hospitals, schools, and temples. #Tanzania #Indiandiaspora

1883, The Royal Bombay Yacht Club, Bombay (Mumbai). This photograph was taken before the extension was added. Founded in 1846 by Henry Morland, the Royal Bombay Yacht Club (RBYC) in Colaba, Mumbai, is one of India's oldest and most prestigious sailing institutions, gaining its "Royal" title in 1876. Known for its iconic Victorian-Gothic seafront clubhouse (built 1881) and its proximity to the Gateway of India, the club boasts a rich history of promoting sailing in the Arabian Sea. A second, residential clubhouse was added to the complex in 1896. The club has maintained its colonial-era atmosphere, including strict dress codes, traditional menus (like steak and kidney pie), and the display of historical sailing artifacts. Before 1957, membership was limited to non-Indians. Today, it has evolved into an exclusive club with over 1,200 members, predominantly Indian, but maintains a very long waiting list. The RBYC is lauded for its architectural beauty, featuring high ceilings, wooden paneling, and, notably in Room 422, stunning views of the Gateway of India and the Arabian Sea. It is often described as a, "blast from the past" and a key part of Mumbai's colonial-era heritage. #Mumbai #club #heritage #history

Good morning, from my room in Koregaon Park, Pune! Barring the railway lines, the view of the greenery of the city that used to be my home, is very encouraging and refreshing. Irrespective of the construction taking place in the distance, this green cover should be preserved. #Pune #greenery
