New news! We detected signatures of rarely probes species such as cadmium, platinum, and gold in an r-process enhanced star with the @HubbleTelescope and the Magellan II Telescope! This is now only the 6th star with gold abundance determined! arxiv.org/abs/2401.12311

Day 11: we visited Palmer station in the Antarctic peninsula today. We were the first visiting ship since Covid happened! Thank you to all staff who showed us around and shared their research and roles on the station! I also met @seashavonnasail from @MIT! Small world 🌎🇦🇶🤩

Spoiler, I picked three days from today — who thought that they are this far north (we’re still 24h north of Elephant island, the northernmost island of the Antarctic peninsula). And some rare albatrosses keep following the ship! What a treat on this otherwise gray and rainy day!

Day 7 on our voyage to Antarctica with @HomewardBound. Today we passed the first iceberg!🧊 It caused quite some excitement especially because we had a competition going on for when exactly we would encounter the first gone that is larger than our ship (106 meters).
