Whistleblowers don't just protect themselves. They protect all of us. Words on paper are not protection. Many governments have the tools. They just need the will to use them.

Whistleblowers expose fraud, bribery, and corruption. Often at enormous personal cost. Governments say they protect them. The data says otherwise. 🧵⬇️

These are structural issues. Whatever the result of the elections, the real test begins the morning after. Citizens, civil society, and international organisations will need to sustain the pressure required to reclaim what has been captured.

87% of Hungarians say corruption is widespread in their country. Hungary scores 40/100 in our Corruption Perceptions Index 2025 — the lowest in the EU. In 2025, the European Commission found zero progress on lobbying reform, media independence, and civil society protection.
