Some of the replies to this tweet are blatantly racist, which really just proves the point: anti-migrant hatred is the gateway drug to broader racial-based hatred and violence. In Bloemfontein today, an anti-migrant march quickly turned to looting of Chinese-owned shops.

A young African penguin named Fred stole hearts after waddling into a beach cleanup at Lagoon Beach in Milnerton. Another hard day… today I cried a lot. My heart is not coping with all the cruelty 💔 Why do people treat these special doggies like this? Both are at the vet tonight, fighting through terrible pain. One has severe burn wounds after someone poured boiling water over him, and the other was stabbed. I know these dogs. They are not aggressive. They are gentle souls that only want love, food, safety and kindness. I will never understand how someone can look into innocent eyes and choose cruelty instead of compassion. My heart is shattered for them tonight, but we will keep fighting for them, because they deserve to know that not all humans are cruel. Please keep them in your prayers. 🤍

Do you see how it goes. Now they are attacking South Africans, who they think are not “South African enough”. The other day they were attacking a South African journalist who someone decided did not look South African enough - Velani Ludidi. This is extremely dangerous.
