> Ravindra Patil was a young Mumbai Police constable, assigned as Salman Khan’s bodyguard in 2002 due to underworld threats
> On 28 Sept 2002, he was in the Salman’s car during the Bandra hit-and-run where 1 person died, 4 were injured
> Patil’s statement was crucial: he said Salman was driving & warned him not to drive rashly
> He filed the FIR himself becoming the key prosecution witness
> Faced immense pressure to change his statement… but he didn’t back down
> During the trial, he mysteriously went missing, was later arrested for absence, and even dismissed from service
> His life spiralled… illness, poverty, isolation
> He was even Diagnosed with tuberculosis, abandoned by family, survived on help from friends
> Died alone in a government hospital in 2007… body reportedly unclaimed for hours
Irony: His testimony helped convict Salman in 2015… but he wasn’t alive to see it
