Lebanon as a state should have never extended outside Mount Lebanon, and I don’t get why they fought for 10452 in the civil war when they hated other Christians much less Muslims and Druze

except for the Shia, Druze and to a lesser extent the Sunnis, but still minimal only affecting 1/4 of the population. This will create clear homogeneous self governing cantons will local representation & accountability.

Demographics Now & Then
Outdated but interesting demographic information from Iraq. In 2018 Shia Arab Iraqis has a TFR of ⬆️4.0, Kurds 3.0, & Sunni Arab Iraqis 2.9. Sunni Arab Iraqi TFR cratered during & after war to destroy ISIS in Mosul & other predominately Sunni Arab areas. amwaj.media/en/article/dee…

Guys, we need to stop immigration because it’s going to turn us into the third world.
James Tate@JamesTate121

A Trump insider opened a $51,000,000 oil short position — hours before Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran. This guy is now 16 for 16. $170 million in profit. A perfect streak. This is not a talented trader. "We placed the bet." "The ceasefire dropped." "We cashed out." Sixteen times in a row. That is not skill. That is not instinct. That is not research. That is someone who knows what is coming before it comes. Think about what that actually means. A private individual is placing a $51 million bet that oil prices are about to collapse — hours before a sitting president announces a ceasefire that collapses oil prices. Not once. Sixteen times. Zero losses. There are only two explanations and both should terrify you. Either someone inside the White House — or with direct access to it — is leaking ceasefire negotiations to traders before diplomats, before the press, before the American people hear a single word. That is insider trading. That is corruption. That is a federal crime. Or the timing of the announcement itself is being shaped around the trade. Which is worse. This is not a genius investor who reads the news faster than you do. The news hadn't happened yet. He wasn't reading the news. He was getting a phone call. While Americans were watching the ceasefire announcement and feeling relieved — somebody already knew. Somebody had already bet $51 million on it. And somebody was already counting their winnings. You are not watching a free market. You are watching a White House with a side hustle. Via~ Really American

Colonial America was very much a normal society. An immigrant family from Germany would hear that "Indians have been removed from Dakota" and move into a farmhouse in a piece of uninhabited land. They did not pay any particular attention to the violence that had just occurred.

Sub-Saharan Africa scores fairly well on standard metrics of gender equality, This is largely due to its very high female labour force participation But most of this work is just in back-breaking agriculture on low-productivity family farms. That's just relentless drudgery.

@magic_carpetcap @idontpaytaxes_ Quite the projection from someone who thinks contextualizing why Egypt has a bop crisis is somehow an excuse. Also at best Egypts’ potential would’ve been upper middle income if everything went right which isn’t enough to placate the population when the economy stagnates

@GermaniaZongdu Mind you this probably one of the main reasons Morocco turned coat and shared intel about Arab military plans on attacking Israel and allied with the west since the Arab left mostly supported Algeria

@GermaniaZongdu Morocco tried to militarily take over those disputed territories but failed and in response Algeria started funding the Polisario front and the Moroccan opposition

@idontpaytaxes_ Don’t get me wrong they mismanaged the economy by choking the private sector, spending tens of billions of foreign currency on unproductive infrastructure & European military equipment purchases, & exporting gas for short term gains.

@idontpaytaxes_ They shouldn’t have relied on hot money as much as they did, but it would be unfair to say that it was hard to predict coronavirus, unprecedented US stimulus spending during supply chain bottlenecks, US fed raising interest rates, and Russia- Ukraine war.

Also, one reason why Japan wanted a sphere of influence of its own was that it'd industrialized way too late, and industrialized countries didn't want Japanese products, there were even quotas in some cases, its domestic consumer base was small. China was a large market for Japan

"Israel is a developed country with a 3,0 tfr" is a bit misleading cause the pop. is diverse, many are Mus. Arabs (85 IQ), Mizrahi (90 IQ) The group which "keeps Israel developed" (Secular Ashkenazi) ≈2,0 tfr Still way higher than other first world states but not extremely so.
