A Scaly Babbler stole the show at this morning’s ringing at Mwamba! 🐦 Even with 13 birds in one net, this social species, with its yellow eyes and streaked plumage, was the clear highlight. 🎥 Take a look: #BirdRinging #ArochaKenya #ScalyBabbler #Mwamba

#Rain has been a welcome constant here in Watamu. But this morning, we paused bird ringing. In wet nets, #birds can’t orient themselves properly, making them vulnerable. Fieldwork means knowing when to act, and when to pause. #Conservation

Once a month, our team heads out to conduct waterbird counts in the Sabaki estuary. This dynamic area marks the point where the Sabaki River meets the Indian Ocean, The site supports wildlife, including resident terns and flamingos, and hippos can often be seen further upriver.

Where have all the butterflies gone?” What happens when we till every corner of land? Here is a reflection on growing up in western Kenya, and the quiet disappearance of insects. 🦋 A call to care by letting things grow wild. 👉 arocha.or.ke/2025/06/13/whe… #conservation
