As a former YA writer, and the mother of a teenager, I have MANY thoughts on that YA Declining In Sales Piece, but sadly the only way to hear them is to meet me in person and purchase me two (2) glasses of wine which I will then drink in quick succession before Holding Forth.
@__eshani Also, fandoms just... lasted longer. Fic communities had a bigger tails when it came to their legacy. And strangely enough -- filing serial numbers off fanfic to make money was hella frowned upon. Making money off fics was immediate dismissal from (most) communities.
@__eshani YES! A lot of things have changed since the early 00s in the fanfic sphere. For instance, we used to use the citrus scale for sexy fic ratings. We used to add disclaimers at the beginning of our fics (thanks Anne Rice). We called bad reviews 'flames', etc etc etc
