This Friday, @theaidocfilm opens in theaters across the U.S. Our latest episode of Your Undivided Attention tells the story behind it.
This film debuted at Sundance this year in the same theater where The Social Dilemma premiered six years earlier, almost to the day. I was in the room. People laughed, gasped, and cried. Not a little, like full-on tears.
The team behind this film did something I wasn’t sure could be done, they turned the hyperobject of AI into a shared object. They held space for almost every perspective without losing their clear point of view. And they made it entertaining enough that your neighbor or your parents can watch it and walk out understanding what's at stake.
At CHT, we say clarity creates agency. This film helps create that clarity.

In our annual Ask Us Anything episode, there was one question that kept coming up: The broken incentives behind social media, and now AI, have done so much damage to our society, but what is the alternative? In this week’s episode of Your Undivided Attention, @tristanharris and @aza set out to answer this question by imagining what a world with humane technology might look like—one where we recognized the harms of social media early and embarked on a whole of society effort to fix them. This alternative history serves to show that there are narrow pathways to a better future, if we have the imagination and the courage to make them a reality. Link to the full episode in the replies.
