I'm not going to weigh into the merits of floor-crossing. But anyone who understands Nunavut's political makeup knows that Nunavummiut lean more toward voting for the person over the party. Just did an interview with a political vet in Nunavut who said as much. Stay tuned.

I am deeply disturbed to learn of yet another shooting targeting a synagogue in Toronto. Jewish Canadians need to feel safe in their synagogues, their camps, and their neighbourhoods. Your government remains firm in its commitment to protecting Jewish Canadians and fighting all forms of hate. We are putting forward measures to strengthen communities, including Bill C-9, which would be a meaningful step forward.

Last night, two synagogues in Toronto, Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto in Thornhill and Shaarei Shomayim in North York were assaulted by gun shots. Earlier this week, Temple Emanu-El in North York was also maliciously attacked.  These criminal antisemitic attacks are an assault on the rights of Jewish Canadians to live and pray in safety. They are also fundamental violations of the Canadian way of life.  The federal government will use every tool available to confront antisemitic violence and hatred, and protect places of worship. Canada’s new government has introduced legislation to strengthen the Criminal Code, protect our communities, and combat hate.  Federal agencies, including the RCMP, will use every resource to support law enforcement to identify the perpetrators of these crimes and bring them to the full weight of justice.

More bullets were fired at Jewish synagogues last night, on Shabbat, including Shaarei Shomayim in North York. I am horrified and outraged. I joined them earlier this week for Purim - a joyful celebration of the strength and survival of the Jewish people. To see their place of worship targeted in this cowardly, antisemitic attack disgusts me. These photos are of the gunfire damage at The BAYT in Thornhill, which also happened last night. Toronto Police will have an enhanced presence outside places of worship, but it’s long past time for real action to build a city where that isn’t required. Where hateful acts like this are prevented, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Two more synagogues were targeted by gunfire in Toronto and Vaughan overnight just days after the last attack. My heart breaks thinking about the fear this brings to Jewish families and communities. Antisemitism has no place here, or anywhere. I have spoken with Toronto police leadership and they ensure enhanced resources are being deployed to the Jewish community and Jewish centric institutions/places of worship. I will continue to monitor this deeply troubling situation and will provide any updates as they become available. I know words are not enough. More must be done to ensure Jewish Ontarians are safe.
