The Shibarium bridge exploit (September 2025) drained approximately $2.4M–$4.1M (reports vary slightly based on timing and valuations) from the bridge contract via a sophisticated flash loan attack combined with compromised validator keys (10 out of 12 validators affected). The attacker borrowed ~4.6M $BONE temporarily to gain majority voting power, signed malicious states, and drained assets. The attacker sold/converted some stablecoins but couldn't liquidate KNINE due to blacklisting. Many other tokens remain unmoved or frozen. The team offered bounties (up to 50 ETH initially, later reduced) for return, but the hacker rejected. Recovery efforts evolved into the "Shib Owes You" (SOU) framework: Ethereum-based SOU NFTs as on-chain proof of owed amounts to victims, plus community-driven layers (e.g., donations, fees) to fund repayments. $SOU token — This is the community-launched meme/utility token on BSC (Binance Smart Chain) by @woofswap.
