Preparedness saves lives. Recently, UK flood rescue specialists supported 🇲🇼 Search & Rescue Cluster with flood rescue training alongside partners. Additional rescue boats & safety gear were donated for rapid deployment in future floods. Better readiness = more effective response

In Chikwawa, Ben met committee members of a Community Disaster Fund supported by FCDO. The committee showed him the flood defence they designed and built to protect over 800 households — supporting community resilience to climate change.

Today in Chikwawa, the UK Dev. Director met families hit by floods & visited an evacuation centre where WFP & DoDMA are delivering urgent support. Thanks to UK’s early funding, WFP had supplies ready before the floods through WFP logistics services: transport, storage & fuel.

Floods in southern Malawi have destroyed homes & displaced families. Thanks to @UKinMalawi early funding, WFP had emergency kits and food ready before the floods, so our teams could respond immediately. WFP remains committed to supporting Malawians during this emergency.

With support from @UKinMalawi, WFP is delivering life-saving assistance to flood-affected families: prepositioned food, emergency kits & critical logistics support. Thanks to this UK funding for preparedness, we are acting fast reaching over 9,700 households in need.

Imagine being in Standard 3 and still unable to read a single sentence — not for lack of effort, but because teaching hasn’t met you where you are. That is the reality for too many children in #Malawi. Today at Kamuzu Primary School in Mchinji, we saw what changes that.

Through Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), teachers group learners by what they know — delivering targeted support that helps children catch up and keep up. This is what delivery looks like: locally led, evidence‑based, focused on impact.

Strengthening search & rescue capacity in Malawi! WFP has collaborated with @UK_ISAR_TEAM to facilitate a 3-day search and rescue training at Bangula, bringing together first responders. Thanks to @UKinMalawi this strengthens national emergency response & lifesaving operations.

🇬🇧 Emergency Medical Team (EMT) @UKEMT in collaboration with WHO delivered a 5-day workshop boosting Malawi EMT’s path to international standards – strengthening its ability to respond to health emergencies in 🇲🇼 and across the region. A strong partnership delivering real impact.

This partnership started during #CycloneFreddy in 2023. Three years on, it's still going and growing stronger. @UK_ISAR_TEAM 's Russ Gauden said: "I am very proud of what has been achieved by Malawi responders and planners." #GoFarGoTogether #EmergencyPreparedness

The training came with something tangible too. A UK charity, SESHAA, donated two inflatable rescue boats & life jackets , now pre-positioned at the Bangula Humanitarian Staging Area, ready to deploy during emergency. Because preparedness can't wait until disaster strikes.

🇬🇧 rescue experts were in 🇲🇼's Lower Shire region, one of the areas most vulnerable to flooding , training 20 emergency responders in boat handling & flood rescue. 3️⃣ of those facilitators were graduates from 2025 Train the Trainer programme. That's local expertise, growing.

🎓 29 Malawian scholars — 7 #Chevening & 22 #CommonwealthScholarships — are home after completing postgraduate studies in the UK. From human rights law to water engineering, they return with skills Malawi urgently needs. #Welcomehome. Your country is proud. 🇲🇼🇬🇧
