My Aysun had another vet visit yesterday. She is such a trooper! Age 15 and dealing with cancer and mobility issues-yet she keeps going. Kudos to my awesome vet. We want more years with our girl!

Checkerspots are starting to emerge--a little earlier the usual April or May I typically document here--but perhaps not surprisingly given the heat. We have several species of these wonderful butterflies here in Mariposa County--this is a variable checkerspot.

Poppies gone wild! These cool and unusual looking poppies are examples of fasciation, a plant growth abnormality that can cause wide, flattened stems and clustered flowers.

Two marvelous butterflies visited me today: a red admiral and a painted lady.

Sir Ray of Sunshine Hill seems to be able to sleep through the boisterous courtship of our frogs this evening. 🙂

Oh the joy! My house finches have returned again this year to nest in my hanging planters. I purposely did not pull out the dead flowers in case they returned. Fresh seasonal flowers after their kids are grown. Last year they raised two broods!

A lovely show tonight in Bear Valley of alpenglow, where if conditions are right, immediately after sunset or just before sunrise, sunlight scatters over granite on high elevation peaks. Watching mountains turn pink is a revelation,

Oh, what a glorious Sierra blue sky day! The snow is melting into music-but too soon. We could have skied in shorts and some of the snow bridges were melted out. To my dear friends Charlie and Doris. Thank you for this gift of a day! I haven’t been cross country skiing in ten years. I have made a promise to myself that 2026 is the year I reclaim myself and make time for friends and all the things I used to enjoy doing. And it’s good friends like Doris and Charlie that help me make good on my promise.
