I can explain it. General Practice funded to the tune of 34p a day but consulting the equivalent of over half the entire population of England every single month Fund the front door and watch the numbers change Huge evidence from Ireland here…
The BMJ@bmj_latest

Broad evidence shows the detrimental effect of austerity on health life expectancy, yet this remains largely unspoken within mainstream health and policy discourse. The evidence is clear, but the narrative isn’t bmj.com/content/393/bm…

GPs are being asked to do more with less under imposed contracts. This isn’t sustainable. We’re urging practices to withhold patient data sharing with third parties as part of collective action this May. Here’s why 👇 bma.org.uk/news-and-opini…

Editor: I’m so proud of our 6,200 GP practices nationwide who delivered 388,000,000 appointments in the past year on record tiny proportion of NHS budget where 0.02% interactions result in a complaint. I hope @wesstreeting @SKinnock would also decry this reporting. @BMA_GP

GPs in England are launching collective action TODAY, after our GP committee voted that Government proposals don’t go far enough. We’re taking action on data sharing agreements, because policy proposals have not gone far enough to convince GPs that the profession will be protected. #UKBiobank GPC England has consistently expressed concerns for years regarding @uk_biobank’s lax approach to the security of its dataset We’ve been repeatedly reassured by Govt, but nevertheless we insisted that NHS England retain liability… 1/4

99% have said no. GPs and GP registrars across England have overwhelmingly rejected the Government’s imposed contract changes for 2026/27. These plans would pile unsafe, unfunded workload onto already stretched practices, putting patient care at risk. GPs are calling on the Government to return to the table and work with the profession on a contract that’s safe, properly resourced, and sustainable.

GPs across England have sent a clear message. Nearly every GP who voted has rejected the Government’s imposed contract that would pile on work and be unsafe for patients. GPs want to work with Government on a new contract that’s properly resourced and sustainable. It’s time to return to the table.

An overwhelming majority of GPs and GP registrars have voted to reject the Government's imposed contract changes for 2026/27. "These proposals heap unsafe, unfunded additional workload on to practices, forcing GPs to deliver more with less, putting patient care at risk," says @BMA_GP chair @doctor_katie
