@DavidAFrench @mashagessen David, I get wanting to praise your colleagues, but Gessen has spread misinformation about medical interventions for minors. I don’t know if Pulitzer should be recognizing journalists who spread misinformation where children’s health is concerned. nytimes.com/2024/12/06/opi…

In a now notorious New York Times interview published shortly after the assassination attempt on President Trump, participants smirked and giggled through a discussion of theft and political violence. When future archeologists seek to date the moment that the demise of the West became inevitable, this video will be a strong contender. My latest for @cityjournal: city-journal.org/article/new-yo…

A compelling essay: Victor Davis Hanson draws sharp classical parallels to today’s civilizational troubles in the West. The specter of decline is timeless, he shows--but so is Western resilience.
The New Criterion@newcriterion

“The now-pessimistic West is beset by the same inherent challenges of success that have recurrently plagued its long 2,500-year history.” Read “The timeless specter of Western decline,” by Victor Davis Hanson. @VDHanson newcriterion.com/article/the-ti…

The fundamental problem is that they do not believe America is a superpower worth defending. They see American power itself as the problem. Which is why, under the language of “diplomacy,” “concessions,” and “deals,” they consistently support policies that erode U.S. leverage. It amazes me that they don’t realize it.

Mayor @RudyGiuliani devoted his life to this city, from his days as a federal prosecutor to leading New York through 9/11. He was there when we needed him most. I’m praying for Rudy and his family and hoping for a full recovery. We shared a cigar in Florida not too long ago. I’m saving one for when you’re back home, my friend.

I really find these sort of articles disgusting and despicable. I have limited tolerance for anyone who spins up this many clever insults on the theme “in American political discourse China is just a mirror for our own neuroses” but then ends the essay like this:

This is the post-Trump future of the party. Pratt's campaign runs on fury at California's dysfunctional response to the Palisade Fire and now at the systemic corruption at the foundation of this dysfunction, which has been laundered by the NGO Borg through an astroturfed pseudo-morality being imposed on the state's children. Whether he wins his race or not, his responses to the structural condition of that state's governance, provides a path forward for the party throughout Blue America, where the opportunity is ripest to capitalize on discontent about all the exactions and derangements that one-party rule has enabled. It is the domain where populist discontent seeks an answer in competent, uncorrupt rule. (Providing this answer, of course, means breaking with the Trump family itself.)

Ok. This is an interesting clip. This is one of the first times I’ve seen a politician running explicitly against the progressive NGO kleptocracy. He’s wrong that these people are ‘socialists’ (they’re kleptocrats who use leftist rhetoric to legitimize themselves) but that’s fine. It’s still very effective rhetorically. The right needs to bring this attack up to scale: the purpose of the DSA is not ‘socialism,’ it’s to maximize public revenue extraction so that upper middle class jobs doing fake work can be doled out to political allies (surplus elites, failed creatives, etc.). It’s important for the public to understand what’s going on here and where their money is going and not only can this be an effective cudgel against the left, but smashing these rice bowls can have all sorts of other positive externalities for our politics.
