Devastating report from Tony Blair Institute on Ed Miliband’s net zero nonsense. His claim that net zero will create hundreds of thousands of green industrial jobs vastly overstated. Investing in green technology unlikely to reverse the long-term decline of British industry. Ministers must not “over-state the job opportunities from green manufacturing”. A “mistake” to let net zero dominate the Government’s entire economic strategy as it would deliver only a meagre boost to growth. What the report doesn’t say — but I do — is that we could easily increase defence spending to 3%+ of GDP by switching resources from net zero to a military build up.

Grand National day. For us that live and breathe horse racing, this day can be an emotional roller coaster. Excitement, nerves, elation, upset, frustration, relief. In amongst all of it, don't forget one key truth. The annual naysayers will fire their shots at our sport in pursuit of cheap publicity again, but by tomorrow morning the vast majority of them will have moved on to something else until next year.
