Historic Northeast Blizzard -- the final numbers
While it just brushed DC, this was a remarkable storm. With 37.9 inches, Providence, Rhode Island shattered its all-time snowfall record and also set a Rhode Island state record for snow.
So many places in eastern New England and Long Island with over 2 feet and dozens of reports of 30-40 inches. The winds were also impressive. Still about 300,000 customers without power from Delaware to Massachusetts.
Our area just sat too far to the southwest for this storm. All of the big cities to our north now have above normal snow (Baltimore, Philly, NYC and Boston) this year but we're a bit below normal (hat tip to @ttasselWBAL)
Providence received more snow in one storm than we have in the last four winters combined (hat tip to @MikeTFox5 for this stat)

“We got it again!” Watch the iconic moment @JimCantore sees thundersnow live in Plymouth, Massachusetts, during Winter Storm Hernando. It’s the exact same location where he experienced the rare phenomenon 11 years ago.

I meant to look this up earlier! Nice work Mike and what a record. 2010 was after 2 Blizzards, this time it’s 7” of snow and ice and then frigid temps for weeks. Wow

❄️SNOW MILESTONE!!❄️ Today marks the 17th straight day that DCA has reported 2" or more of snow on the ground. This is the longest we've kept this much snow on the ground in DC in 36 YEARS!! ☃️ Since December of 1989. We just beat out the back-to-back blizzards of February 2010 (aka Snowmageddon) as of today! Really speaks to just how impressive this cold was. February 2010 has two blizzards. December 1989 had two 4" snowfalls. We have managed to hold on to 2" of snow from a peak snow depth of 6"...from a storm that happened 17 days ago. THAT is so impressive. ❄️

This pretty much sums it up this morning on the Outer Banks. Near-blizzard conditions and extreme cold with highs in the mid-20s, 30° below average.

Significant snow is expected across the entire area late tonight-Sun. Most will see between 5-10" of snow with more north & west of Baltimore/Washington DC & less across southern MD/central VA due to mixing. More snow & ice info: weather.gov/lwx/winter. #MDwx #VAwx #WVwx #DCwx
