As a fuel crisis triggered by the war in Iran drives up global fossil fuel prices, the Trump administration has announced it will pay French energy major TotalEnergies $1bn to kill plans to construct wind farms off the US east coast.

Enhanced oil recovery is a false climate solution touted by Big Oil that injects CO2 underground to increase the flow of oil and gas to the surface. This is a dangerous action because CO2 leaches into our drinking water, can cause explosions, and results in toxic pipeline leaks.

Under President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, corporations are getting a tax break of $180 per ton of CO2 (carbon dioxide) they use in enhanced oil recovery. That’s estimated to cost tax payers $14.2 billion from 2025-2034. ⛽️💸
