A time to recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of Asian communities across Canada, May is Asian Heritage Month. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of exclusion, racism and violence, & the ongoing work needed to build more equitable systems.

Journey to Freedom Day marks the Komagata Maru’s arrival in 1914 and the injustice faced by its passengers, denied entry due to racist laws. It reminds us to confront this history and continue working toward a more just and inclusive society.

All workers deserve to come home healthy at the end of the workday. But tragically, far too many do not. At CLAS, we join with all those honouring today’s Day of Mourning, which commemorates workers who are killed, injured, or made sick due to their work.

The Festival of Riḍván is the holiest Baháʼí festival, a twelve-day celebration. We wish for a meaningful experience to all those who observe.

On the anniversary of the Lapu Lapu tragedy, we remember the lives lost & the families, friends & communities impacted. This act of violence is a painful reminder of the real impacts of hate. We reaffirm the importance of standing against racism and violence in all its forms.
