"In 1930, John Maynard Keynes famously predicted that, by 2030, people would work only 15 hours a week...it is a good reminder that fears of a job apocalypse may very well overlook A.I.’s potential to spur an economic and productivity revival." nytimes.com/2026/05/22/opi…

Good op-ed in NYT today on AI and jobs: "The historical pattern is clear: The U.S. economy can and will adapt to major advances in technology. What’s also clear is that stark forecasts by even the most brilliant minds often miss their mark."

Two months ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I want to share few things in hopes it can help someone. For starters… I didn’t have a single symptom.

“I didn’t like certain aspects of it. I postponed it...We’re leading everybody, and I don’t want to do anything that’s going to get in the way of that.” - Trump politico.com/news/2026/05/2…

Rushing out half-baked AI policy is never a good idea. Just ask the EU. Hitting pause on the proposed AI executive order will give the administration more time to avoid unintended consequences.

Fine to study how AI may affect workers and explore policies that help people transition between jobs. But policymakers should avoid fueling unnecessary panic about mass unemployment. Better data on AI’s labor impacts will help separate legitimate concerns from speculation.
Governor Gavin Newsom@CAgovernor

I just signed a first-of-its-kind executive order to empower workers impacted by AI. California will pursue new policies that make sure working Californians — not just Big Tech — benefit from the wealth and breakthroughs coming out of this space.

Google's Project Genie is an important step forward in building world models—AI that understands the physical world. Plus it is really fun! Below is a honey bee flying through a rainforest using a mosaic effect.

For years, critics attacked Palantir as “US spy tech.” Increasingly, it seems like their objections were a ruse. The real issue was that it wasn’t "European" spy tech. politico.eu/article/german…

Germany’s BfV reportedly chose a French AI firm over Palantir to send “a clear signal for European digital sovereignty.” This is the problem with Europe’s sovereignty agenda in a nutshell: policymakers too often prioritize country of origin over product quality and capability.

Canada’s privacy regulators ruled that @OpenAI violated privacy law by using publicly accessible online data to train @ChatGPTapp. But restricting access to public web data could make developing advanced AI systems in Canada far more difficult...🧵

Philadelphia is proposing a new $1 tax on Uber and Lyft rides to fund schools. But riders already pay a 1.4% rideshare fee, and two-thirds of that revenue already goes to the school district—generating about $6.3 million last year alone. More here: itif.org/publications/2…

But it is important not to over index on AI. Cybersecurity training should still be the top priority. There should also be renewed efforts to recruit workers with AI skills to federal government. Legislation like the AI Talent Act or an SFS for AI would be good steps forward.

The U.S. government's CyberCorps Scholarship For Service (SFS) program is now the "CyberAI SFS". Overall, it is good that OPM is insisting that schools ensure their curricula includes AI. AI will be an important skillset for infosec professionals.
