Today, I received Ms. Maymuchka Lauriston, Deputy Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Head of its East Africa Office, and her delegation for a productive discussion on strengthening Somalia–OHCHR cooperation. Our discussions focused on implementing UN Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/60/28, including the development of the 2026–2027 Action Plan and accelerating the establishment of an OHCHR office in Somalia. This engagement reflects our continued progress in advancing human rights, including the establishment of the Independent National Human Rights Commission—a historic milestone in strengthening accountability and institutional capacity.

We are pleased by #Kenya’s agreement for @UNHumanRights to set up country & multi-country offices in Nairobi, confirmed today during the UN Human Rights Council @UN_HRC This decision will go a long way toward helping promote and protect human rights in Kenya and East Africa.
