Senior Minister: Anutin Cannot Regain Power After Failed Attempt to Boost Popularity through Aggression against Cambodia (Phnom Penh): Keo Remy, Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, stated on Friday that Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s decision to dissolve parliament and “return power to the people” will not restore his political fortunes. According to Keo Remy’s analysis, Anutin’s attempt to rebuild his popularity has failed, particularly after his alleged collusion with the Thai military to provoke aggression against Cambodia. Keo Remy noted two key reasons why Anutin’s strategy backfired. First, the majority of Thai citizens, including businesspeople, students, and intellectuals, are weary of ongoing political turmoil. Second, they strongly oppose hostility toward Cambodia, which has harmed livelihoods, reduced incomes, and worsened Thailand’s economic outlook. He added that many Thai intellectuals are embarrassed by their country’s damaged international reputation. Most Thais now realise that Cambodia did not initiate conflict, pointing out that even during severe floods, when Thai soldiers were rescuing citizens, there were no Cambodian attacks on Thailand. “The vast majority of Thai people do not want war with Cambodia, except for extremist factions, the royal elite, and certain groups within the military,” Keo Remy underscored. The Cambodian human rights chief also highlighted that those seeking confrontation with Cambodia have underestimated the country’s greatest strength—its people. He said that beyond capable leadership and sound governance, the unity and patriotism of Cambodians, especially their anger at repeated insults from Thai extremists, have galvanised nationwide solidarity. Men and women across all generations have volunteered, donated money and supplies, and expressed readiness to defend their homeland if necessary. It should be noted that on Friday, the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, formally approved the dissolution of parliament, paving the way for early general elections. The royal decree followed Anutin’s televised announcement on the night of 11 December 2025, declaring the dissolution of parliament to allow new elections. According to the Thai Royal Palace, the elections will take place within 45 to 60 days. =FRESH NEWS

Four-month Pregnant Cambodian Female Soldier Killed at Frontline in Boeung Trakuon (Banteay Meanchey): Cambodian female soldier Mut Saveun, 4 months pregnant, was killed on 10 December 2025 while serving on the frontline in Boeung Trakuon amid the ongoing Thailand–Cambodia border conflict. On 11 December 2025, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs issued a statement mourning the loss of the courageous officer and praising her ultimate sacrifice in defence of Cambodia’s territorial integrity. Saveun, 43, served with honour in Military Region 5 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, stationed at Boeung Trakuon in Thma Puok district of Banteay Meanchey province. Her death has been widely described as a heartbreaking loss not only for her family but for the entire nation. Born into a military family, Saveun devoted her life to national service and left behind one daughter, who is currently in her second year studying English literature. According to local authorities and academic institutions, Saveun’s body is being kept at the family residence in Chheu Teal commune, Banan district, Battambang province, where traditional funeral rites are underway. Community members, officials, and fellow soldiers are visiting the family home to pay their final respects and honour her sacrifice. =FRESH NEWS

As of December 11, Thai strikes have severely damaged Khmer border temples in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces. Shelling has destroyed parts of Preah Vihear Temple and other conservation facilities under a joint archaeological effort between Cambodia and India. Ta Krabei Temple in Oddar Meanchey province was almost destroyed completely after further attacks by Thai troops. The temple’s upper section continues to crumble as Cambodia’s Defense Ministry reported the Thai bombardment. The Cambodian government also condemned the Thai military action over the damage to other Khmer border temples such as Ta Moan Thom and Khnar.
