I feel compelled to say that even when an art form isn’t at the height of its popularity, traces of it still live on in the music and cinema that resonate with people today. The popular music we hear now simply wouldn’t exist without the popular music that came before it centuries ago.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It was an honor to sing The National Anthem. I wrote the arrangement in a very specific way to honor Whitney Houston- I hope that was heard. Thank you to the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, the Sainted Choir, the Color of Noize Orchestra, Steve Hackman, and Kenny G for joining me on stage. And thank you Adam Blackstone for writing such a beautiful choir part. I love music so much.

The reason why things used to feel more vibrant (i.e. the “sky used to be more blue” and “music was sooo much better in the early 00’s) is because we had our sensory receptors all the way open. There was only so much you could do on a Motorola Razr in 2004! Eventually you’d put it down and experience life…
