Each time I’ve taken part in a promotion ceremony, recognizing our members for their leadership and commitment, it’s been a genuine pleasure. Mentoring members and watching them achieve their goals has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career, and I will miss it when I retire this June. Congrats to our 20 newest sergeants and detectives! #YRP #YorkRegion #DeedsSpeak

Today, as we mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility, @yrp reaffirms its commitment to stand up to hate in all forms. We stand with members of the transgender community as we honour their achievements and contributions to our society. At @yrp, we will continue to do our part to end violence, bigotry and intolerance in our region, to ensure everyone feels safe and secure. #YRP #YorkRegion #TDOV

You may notice @YRP officers in your neighbourhood in the coming days. We are proactively increasing patrols and deploying the YRP Command Post at strategic locations across the region, as members of our community observe Passover. This means you may see officers near places of worship, community centres or other gathering places, and in your neighbourhood. Officers on patrol and stationed at the Command Post will be available to answer questions, take reports and address any concerns from residents. Hate, bigotry and violence have no place in #YorkRegion. If you experience a hate crime or bias incident, please contact police immediately. For a list of Command Post locations, swipe, visit yrp.ca, or click the link in our bio.

In 36 years of policing, I have had the pleasure of learning from some of the best officers and civilian professionals in this country. We are fortunate that so many of them wear a York Regional Police uniform. Happy International Women's Day!

Last night’s shooting at a synagogue in Vaughan is deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. Earlier this week, @YRP increased patrols and visible police presence across our communities, including at faith-based institutions, places of worship, community centres and public gatherings. Today and in the coming days, we are further stepping up patrols and dedicating additional resources on the ground to proactively combat crime and keep our communities safe. Nobody should feel unsafe in their own neighbourhood. Nobody should feel unsafe for who they are. York Region residents deserve better. York Regional Police is fully committed to restoring our community’s sense of safety and security, including identifying those responsible for these acts and bringing them to justice. If you know something about this crime, or have witnessed or been the victim of a hate crime or hate or bias incident, call police immediately. Visit yrp.ca to see a full list of command post deployments.

Officers at @YRP remain vigilant and will continue special deployments in #YorkRegion after shots were fired a synagogue in North York overnight. I'd like to reiterate that @YRP will be continuing increased proactive outreach, visibility and police patrols across the region. Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presences near faith-based institutions, community centres, schools and at other gathering places in York Region.

Today, I announced that I have made the decision to retire as Chief of York Regional Police, effective June 26, 2026. It has been the greatest honour of my career to lead the dedicated members of York Regional Police, who put the professionalism, compassion and commitment to public safety into action every day. I would like to thank the Police Service Board, our members, our partners and our communities for the trust and confidence you have placed in me over the past six years, and for my entire career. Being privileged to work alongside and lead thousands of exceptional people, I am retiring with immense gratitude and pride. But I am still looking forward, and my commitment over the coming months is simple: Supporting a disciplined and seamless transition, so the organization’s focus stays exactly where it belongs—on building and protecting safer communities well into the future.
