Top 10 Events To Watch At The World Indoor Championships | Women's 1500m 🇵🇱 "The hunt for the year’s first indoor sub-four (not run in a mile) will reach its crescendo in Toruń. Great Britain’s Georgia Hunter Bell, Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom, and France’s Agathe Guillemot make up the four-flat gang this year with season’s bests of 4:00.04, 4:00.62 and 4:00.64... Further down the top list for this year, you come to two more medal favorites who haven’t exactly been in time trial 1500m/mile races this year: American Nikki Hiltz and Australia’s Jess Hull. Hiltz is undefeated as they look to return to the World Indoor podium, having cleaned up at Millrose, Sound, and USAs across three different distances. They’ve long made a living off of tactical savviness and finishing speed, and this championship setting could provide an opportunity for Hiltz to climb to the top step of that podium. Hiltz got the better of Hull at Millrose, but the accomplished Aussie bounced back with the second-fastest indoor 2000m ever in Liévin." 📰 Full preview via @phofmahoney: citiusmag.substack.com/p/world-athlet… 📸 @Justin_Britton

🏆 Top 10 Events To Watch At The World Indoor Championships | Men's 3000m "Josh Kerr of Great Britain and Team USA’s Yared Nuguse are back for a rerun of their epic 1-2 finish from Glasgow two Marches ago, and they’ll be joined by the gold and silver medalists from that year’s epic 1500m final in hard-closing Kiwi George Beamish and America’s most formidable middle distance star, Cole Hocker. All four men have added hardware to their trophy cases since those championships and all four come in with varying levels of success this indoor season. Hocker beat Kerr and Beamish over two miles at Millrose, and after the second-fastest indoor mile ever at the Sound Invite and a thrilling 3000m victory at U.S. Indoors, he seemed to be unstoppable. A tactically weird 1500m U.S. final where he finished fifth put a bit of a damper on that air of invincibility, but that just ensures that the defending World 5000m champ will be fresh when he steps to the line." 📰 Full preview via @phofmahoney: citiusmag.substack.com/p/world-athlet… 📸 @Justin_Britton

Who Is Carter Cutting? And Other Questions Raised By A Weird NCAAs 🤨 "The three biggest favorites in the men’s mile largely delivered on their pre-race expectations: Gary Martin of UVA and George Couttie of Virginia Tech stayed near the front the whole race, and Michigan’s Trent McFarland had the biggest kick, closing in 26.35 for the last 200m. They all finished in the top four… but they all finished behind BYU junior Carter Cutting, the tenth-fastest miler in the NCAA this season. Cutting was the Big 12 champ, but hadn’t finished as the top collegian in any of his other races this season. He’d never run an individual event at NCAAs before, and his mile PB heading into the year was only 3:57.25. That’s not to take anything away from Cutting’s achievements—he’s now a 3:52 guy and the NCAA champion—but it’s safe to say no one outside of Provo saw his breakout performance coming." 📫 Read more via @TheLapCount: thelapcount.substack.com/i/191292936/wh…

Three Cheers For The New Marathon World Record*! 📣📣📣 "Tesfay finished eighth in the 10,000m at Worlds last year and seventh in Tokyo the year before. The list of women who beat her in both those races has three names on it: Beatrice Chebet, Nadia Battocletti, and Gudaf Tsegay. She’s one of only two women to break 64 minutes in the half on multiple occasions; the other is Agnes Ngetich, the 10km world record holder. Based on the company she keeps, it’s not crazy to suggest she’s one of the best pure distance runners in the world who simply hadn’t gotten around to a full marathon before Sunday... So yes, 2:10:51 is fast. And it’s admittedly eyebrow-raising. But be mad at the proven cheaters, not the athletes who didn’t let off the gas in order to run a time that makes us more comfortable. 📫 Read more via @TheLapCount: thelapcount.substack.com/i/191292936/th…

What’s the best way to handle a controversy like Seth Clevenger’s? 🤔 “The DIII podium theatrics had all the hallmarks of a great sports moment. It was respectful and solemn but unambiguous. It didn’t put the meet officials or volunteers in a tough position, and it still gave everyone a moment to celebrate in a manner of their own choosing. Even the crotchetiest of old-timers must admit that the protest was quietly dignified and not an immature tantrum.” 📫 Read more via @TheLapCount: thelapcount.substack.com/i/191292936/in…

“Big change! 2026 – new chapter in the book. I am proud to be a Brooks athlete at the Boston Marathon.” ✍🏻 U.S. Olympian @_Clayton_Young_ has signed with @brooksrunning and will be making his debut for the brand at next month’s Boston Marathon. This wasn’t a quick or easy switch for Young after seven years with ASICS. The decision, one of the biggest of Young’s career, came after months of conversations, lab testing, and contract negotiations. He did it all representing himself, while coming back from a serious ankle injury and trying to get ready for Boston on a compressed build. He joined The CITIUS MAG Podcast to discuss why Brooks felt right, what he learned through the self-representation process, and how performance remains at the center of every decision he makes. We also get into the injury that derailed nearly five months of training, the breakthrough that got him running pain-free again, and how he’s approaching Boston. 📰 Read more here: citiusmag.com/articles/clayt… ▶️ Stream, download and listen to the full interview on The CITIUS MAG Podcast | Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your shows.

The Athletics Integrity Unit has issued a two-year ban to 40-year-old Nancy Jelagat Meto 🇰🇪 after she tested positive for Furosemide, a prohibited diuretic and masking agent, in an out-of-competition test in June 2024. Meto provided a urine sample in Iten, Kenya on June 12th, 2024. The test showed the presence of Furosemide roughly a month later. The case took nearly two years to resolve due to a jurisdictional battle between Kenyan and international authorities until the AIU took over the case. Meto ran personal bests of 1:05:21 for the half marathon and 2:19:31 when she won the 2021 Valencia Marathon. She has not competed since.
