Even The Dead Were Not Safe From Colonialism On March 23, 2026, the remains of 63 members of South Africa’s indigenous Khoisan ethnic groups were reburied in their ancestral land, nearly 2 centuries after being stolen by Europeans under the country’s colonial regime and shipped to Scotland. The ceremony, which took place at Kinderlê Monument, Northern Cape, represented a moment of closure for the descendants of these 63 Khoisan, and another significant step in historical reparations for one of Africa’s longest and most directly colonized countries. South Africa – as it is known today – was first colonized by Europeans in the mid 17th century. The Khoisan were the first to fight back, but Western support for the settler colonists eventually crushed the rebellion, and what followed was generations of institutionalized violence and dehumanization, perpetrated by these colonists and their descendants against South Africa’s rightful inhabitants. 1994 saw an official end to that reign of terror, with the election of Nelson Mandela as South Africa’s first democratically-elected President. The people of South Africa have been fighting for justice and reparations ever since, while a white minority continues to control nearly 90% of their country’s economy. @okorieuche_ reports for the Spearhead.

Entirely misses the point that it's a death penalty that only applies to one ethnicity, the Palestinians, a people who are illegally occupied, living under military rule and subject to dispossession, constant violence and ethnic cleansing

Israel is ethnically cleansing southern Lebanon - a displacement of people bigger than the 1948 Nakba. It ought to be front and centre of western news reporting.
Simona Foltyn@SimonaFoltyn

Only one bridge is left to connect to the coastal city of #Tyre after #Israel bombed seven bridges crossing the Litani, practically isolating #Lebanon’s south. If that bridge gets struck too, it would create “a humanitarian disaster,” an official in Tyre told me. 15% of the city’s 60k residents remain despite Israel’s forced evac orders. Report coming soon @PBS @NewsHour.

The late John Garang as Headmaster of Gatunga’ng’a Senior Secondary School in Nyeri 1965. Garang first arrived in Kenya in 1963, but was locked up at Kamiti Maximum Prison. While there he met KANU politician cum trade unionist, Arthur Ochwada, who was also serving his prison term for embezzlement of KANU funds. Ochwada, however, blamed Mboya for orchestrating his predicaments after they disagreed. Nevertheless Garang narrated his situation to Ochwada, who fortunately enough was about to be released. Upon his release, Ochwada highlighted Garang's plight to Minister for Home Affairs Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who ordered the release of Garang. He left for Uganda where he remained as a refugee , before making his way back to Kenya to work as a teacher after the country became a republic. From Kenya he went to the USA for further studies then back to Sudan to work in the military. ~ Levin

Good morning, Asia. While you were sleeping, one of our most-read stories was about Israel’s plan to maintain ‘security control’ over an area that will stretch dozens of kilometres into its neighbour’s territory. ft.trib.al/oz8cMY0

There’s something almost insulting to the public’s intelligence in the recurring claim that Jewish violence and terrorism in the West Bank is the work of a “fringe,” a handful of “bad apples,” a few hundred individuals. It isn’t fringe, it isn’t marginal, and it certainly isn’t incidental. This is a widespread, consistent, and well-documented phenomenon. Anyone willing to look at a map, even briefly, will see a picture that simply does not align with the comforting narrative: a broad geographic distribution of incidents across nearly the entire West Bank. The source is not a mystery either. The perpetrators do not emerge out of nowhere. In most cases, they come from illegal outposts and pastoral farms. And these, not coincidentally, are all located within the jurisdiction of regional councils. Not cities, not local councils. There is a clear geography to this violence. When you examine the data, the pattern becomes even sharper: Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, Shomron Regional Council, aMount Hebron Regional Council lead both in the number of outposts and in incidents of violence. In Jordan Valley Regional Council the phenomenon exists but to a lesser extent, while in Megilot Dead Sea Regional Council—a secular regional council—it is largely absent. Calling this coincidence requires a very creative imagination. And then there’s the uncomfortable part: these outposts and farms do not exist in a vacuum. They are established, maintained, and connected to infrastructure by the state. It wasn’t “hilltop youth” with a toolbox who paved roads, connected electricity and water, built kindergartens, or arranged transportation. This is public funding, government ministries, and local authorities. It is policy, even if some prefer to call it “looking the other way.” Nor does this begin yesterday. Maps from 2020–2022 already show a well-established pattern. But since the current government took office, there has been a clear acceleration. Data up to July 2025 point to a significant increase, and since then—as anyone paying attention already knows—there has been a further escalation, both in scope and in severity. It’s always possible to keep rolling one’s eyes and cling to soothing phrases. It’s convenient, it avoids confrontation. But reality, quite consistently, is unimpressed by slogans

Not even apartheid South Africa codified executions for only one ‘race group’. Israel is now the most racist state the world has ever known. Shame on every government, every company, every individual who offer it support.
Dyab Abou Jahjah@Aboujahjah

Israel has now become the first state to codify a death sentence that applies in practice to one ethnic group, while another is effectively shielded from it.

Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law. The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment. Additionally, this law further entrenches Israel’s violation of the prohibition of racial segregation and apartheid as it will exclusively apply to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Israel, who are often convicted after unfair trials.
