Thank you for having me today! I enjoyed having the opportunity to talk about what we do at Ventura College!

Appreciate @CoachDunnDunn pouring into the DL community today. Development isn’t about rushing the process. Growth is a marathon, not a race—master the details, trust the progression, and allow evolution to happen through consistent effort through time! #CodeFBClinic #TheDLCode

Defensive Linemen: We don’t play "highlight football.” We play repeatable, violent football. Our attitude is: "The ball belongs to us.” Soft is not in our vocabulary. If you want to be an All-Star, move from Thinking to Instinct.

5 Things Defensive Linemen Should Never Do: Lead with the helmet: Hands win the rush, headbutts lose leverage. Flip your hips: Stepping through is faster and cuts the angle. Peek over the top: Peeking over makes you tall; peek around and kiss the bicep. Drop to a knee: Never put yourself in a position to be pancaked by a 300lb man, sit in the stool instead. Jog to the ball: If the play is live, you are on a 5-yard finish sprint protocol.

How do you win when you lose? Second move reaction. First move gets stopped and most guys freeze. Don't panic if the first move fails, you need IMMEDIATE second move follow up: - Swipe through - Pull through - Shift leverage and re-win

DL play isn’t for the scared—it's violent, disciplined & relentless If you want to avoid contact, there are other great positions. 150+ EDGE/DE/IDL in 3 drafts didn’t happen by accident—they’re needed at highest level. Want to change games? Consider playing DL! #TheDLCode

JUCO isn’t a backup plan. It’s a 1st OPTION. JUCO is not for the weak though. It’s the proving ground. •JUCO kids are highly sought after. • You develop, you succeed and you proceed. • Your stock rises after real reps. The RIGHT JUCO will take care of you! #TheFamily🦅

And its basic fundamental level being a great tackler comes down to executing 2 foundational principles: 1. Getting as much of your body in front of the runners mass as possible. 2. Not leading with the crown of your helmet or using your helmet to initiate contact. ***We want to be as physical as possible, but not all situations require you to be physical - Getting the runner down is MOST important… All tackling plans and practice should be built around principles number 1 & 2 but also having a plan for when you CANNOT get in front of the runner. Learning when and how to be physical is the third element .. Not all great tacklers are great hitters, and not all great hitters are great tacklers…

This may be the best description of making a tackle that I’ve ever seen. What say you @AdamArchuleta ?

I'm of the opinion that the hardest and most important part of "block destruction" is being able to "clear" the body and hands of the blocker. The blocker will almost always continue to hold your jersey, lean and push you as you attempt to shed. Practicing actual release moves that work is something I rarely see done with 2nd 3rd level defenders when working shock and shed drills, but should be a high priority in my book. I personally have never understood why we use shields to practice this, considering our hands should never be locked out higher than our heads... Hand placement should grabbing the sides of the chest plate and controlling the offensive blocker so we can properly throw him or use the release move of choice.. #PracticeWithPurpose

Nick Saban's definition of mental toughness. "What does it take to break you?" Not how loud you are. Not how talented you are. Not how confident you look. It’s your response when things go wrong. What breaks you? x.com/SECNetwork/sta…

One of the most courageous things a person can do is be invested. You make the choice everyday to give something everything you got everyday. It won’t be right away, and may not be in the way you think, but all of those choices add up and pay off!
