The Infinite Node Foundation (NODE) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the intellectual property of @cryptopunks from @yugalabs. Launched by Larva Labs in 2017, CryptoPunks are widely regarded as the catalyst for the modern digital art movement. Their $3.07B in sales have established Matt Hall and John Watkinson as the highest-selling living artists of our time. The pioneering collection of 10,000 unique, algorithmically generated pixel art characters now lives within the most well-capitalized nonprofit dedicated solely to digital art in the United States. Formed in 2025 by Micky Malka and Becky Kleiner, NODE’s purchase of the the IP and additional $25M endowment outpaces the digital art funding of all major U.S. institutions. NODE exists to build networked architecture for digital works like CryptoPunks to be studied, exhibited, and contextualized within the art-historical canon. This transition isn’t about ownership, but liberation. Freed from corporate friction and limitations, the Punk ethos can now thrive through a decentralized, community-driven future. To guide this journey, NODE has assembled a Punks advisory board led by Matt Hall and John Watkinson (Larva Labs) along with visionary voices in the project’s history, Wylie Aronow (Yuga Labs), and Erick Calderon (Art Blocks). In addition, we are happy to share that we will be enlisting Natalie Stone as a consultant to support the NODE team during this transition. This vision begins with a major exhibition of the full 10K collection, to debut alongside the opening of NODE’s permanent hub and exhibition space in Palo Alto. Here, NODE will host a full Ethereum node to contribute towards the permanence of the works housed within. Under our stewardship, CryptoPunks will remain as the artists intended, while continuing to stand as the defining collection of this century’s defining art movement. Thank you to all who have been a part of the Punks journey. Our new chapter together begins now.

When Yuga acquired the CryptoPunks IP back in 2022 we did so not only because we believed in the project, but because we wanted to make sure it landed in crypto-native hands. With BAYC's sudden success, we felt an owed responsibility to Matt, John, and the wider crypto community to step up and become stewards, to help preserve what had started everything. But we also knew from the outset that long-term, Punks deserved a home built on the basis of preservation. My view then, and now, is that what's good for Punks is good for all NFTs. Yuga is still the largest holder of CryptoPunks and so we chose Node because we believe they're best positioned to protect and preserve the long-term value of the Punks legacy. I trust the leadership at Node, and I'm honored to continue supporting that legacy from an advisory council position alongside Matt, John, and Snowfro. I also believe this deal gives Yuga some additional space to refocus on what it set out to build in the first place. And I believe everyone wins here. Not just punks, but Yuga, apes, and the broader ecosystem. My hope is this helps set pace for a new chapter in NFTs, and I'm happy to pass the torch to the good folks over at Node, and let Yuga get back to its apeish roots. Enormous thanks to Stone and the entire Punks team. And Benny and Micky, of course, for believing in jpegs. Cheers everybody.

We are excited to announce CryptoPunks have found a permanent home at The Infinite Node Foundation.  @nodefnd is a non-profit committed to the preservation and expansion of contemporary digital art. @larvalabs founders & artists Matt Hall & John Watkinson are returning to join in a guiding role for the future of Punks - alongside advisory board members @GordonGoner and @ArtOnBlockchain.

After an incredible few years as GM of @cryptopunks, it's time for me to say goodbye to this role, though never goodbye to this community nor this movement. When I first took this job, I felt strongly that Punks didn't need a figurehead...or even a cool babysitter as I sometimes refer to myself. They still don't. True to their decentralized ethos, this collection has always belonged to all of you. **What an honor it's been to support something that was already so perfectly itself. ** Here's my thesis honed through the last few years of living and breathing this project - CryptoPunks are the great art of our time. Not just important digital art, but defining art, period. @larvalabs inadvertently kicked off a new chapter in art history, and now we as a collective share in the responsibility of what those pages will hold. To this end, I've come to believe Punks should be stewarded by a non-profit entity, and I am happy to have played a small role in ensuring the IP has landed "comfy" in their new home. I truly believe Punks will thrive under the stewardship of @nodefnd, as do Matt & John. Ultimately, you can learn a lot about people by spending time in their home, and I've spent time with Micky and Becky there. I want you to know – they CARE about this collection. Their hopes and visions are big, and so is their heart. Punks couldn't ask for better guardians. We've had some extraordinary wins together: CryptoPunks placed in exhibitions and collections within prestigious museums, an 800-page monograph published by @phaidonpress, the "Art of Punk" showcase, countless brunches around the world, the Punk meetup with @Beeple, a shared love of socks, ensuring that pink = Punk AF…and of course who could forget that sunset together at the Punk/Disco Cabin? As I move on, I'm going independent to explore projects that bridge cultural institutions and artists with technical innovation, building the connections between old art worlds and new ones that I've always cared about. After one helluva year, I'll be taking a small break to get my bearings before diving back in fresh on a few secret projects I can't wait to tell you about... How fitting that one of those first undertakings will be with CryptoPunks @nodefnd. 😉 I'm excited to work closely on all the new possibilities for the collection at NODE - with Matt & John on the upcoming Punk exhibition in Palo Alto and with the board on defining new models of stewardship and community governance. @larvalabs - words feel insufficient to express what extraordinary inspirations you have been to me. I am in awe of your artistic brilliance and guided by your profoundly humble approach. They say never meet your heroes, but this time meeting my heroes has proved to be the most special and life-affirming experience. Punks - thank you for rallying for guiding me, for rallying around me..especially after the fire took my home. You showed me what being Punk really means. To the mods who kept our channels vibrant - you are the heartbeat of this community. To every holder who trusted me with your questions, your critiques, and your ideas - thank you. To my Yuga teammates - you've done so much more than you get credit for, you've loved this collection and you showed up for it everyday. And to Yuga leadership @CryptoGarga @GordonGoner @mfigge - thank you for taking a chance on this ex-Google nerd, for entrusting me with something so precious. This all has been the opportunity and honor of a lifetime. Oh, and now? I'm officially CryptoPunk #98. Stone

Today is a big day for everyone that is (still) here. Particularly for everyone in the Punks community, but even beyond, today is a big day for every digital art collector and creator and appreciator on the planet. Punks have a new home. It’s a non-profit. And they care a lot about Punks, both the individual pixelated characters and the people who participate in the Punks community. I feel immensely lucky to have been invited to play a role in this. What started with a “wouldn’t it be amazing if…” conversation with a certain red bearded gentleman has led to one of the most epic transitions that may ever come about in web3. Profoundly humbled that a project that literally lit my personal fuse for digital art ownership and blockchains, that led to Art Blocks and countless innovations in web3, has invited me to help steward the project moving forward. Honored to be a part of this board alongside Matt and John and Wylie, and together with NODE, Punks are in good hands. For many years starting in 2017 I spent endless hours a day in the Punks discord explaining to people why these 24x24 pixel characters were important and interesting and innovative and frankly revolutionary. You wouldn’t believe how hard it was trying to talk people into spending $20 on these internet images on the blockchain. At a time where every crypto project was all about square peg round hole hollow “roadmaps” Punks were “touring complete” the moment they were all claimed. Still today, Punks and their corresponding marketplace are the same lines of code that were launched on Ethereum in June 2017, and that tiny nerdy experiment kicked off a complete revolution and paradigm shift for the medium of digital (and generative) art. I think it’s pretty well known that I struggled when Yuga acquired the IP. I remember thinking of them like I was somehow a stepchild, or a sort of “you are not my dad” kind of way. At the time, things around here were moving so fast! In the roller coaster that has been my life since founding Art Blocks this was a pretty rough patch as I felt almost betrayed by the acquisition. Punks went to a corporation instead of the homegrown ecosystem where they began, and IMO belonged. But I have to hand it to Yuga. I believe they’ve done a tremendous job with Punks, and could not be more pleased with their handling of the project under their stewardship. They invested in the project and in the community, and honestly the Punks brunches over the years have not only been some of the hands down best events in all of web3, but also part of what has helped keep this fragile community together over the objective rough and turbulent last few years. In fact Yuga’s acquisition and handling of Punks fundamentally shifted my perspective on BAYC as a whole, and I truly believe that this temporary home there brought together two great communities in web3 in ways that might not have been possible otherwise. And they brought on Stone (!!!) who has been nothing short of passionate and brilliant and forward thinking for Punks while in Yuga’s hands. The foresight to bring Stone into the mix and support her passion for pushing punks forward will always carry a tremendous amount of respect in my book. And it’s just so great that Stone continues to be involved. And holy moly NODE!!! I mean their mere existence is worth infinite praise and celebration alone. I’ve been super lucky to have gotten to know Micky and Becky over the last couple of years and I’m blown away by their approach towards the arts in general and more specifically this new digital art ecosystem that me and my fellow contemporaries (both artists and collectors) call home. All that’s mattered for me over the last few years with regards to Punks is that Punks end up in the right hands. I believe I share that view and concern with a substantial portion of the Punks community, and as someone that has been here every single day, still wearing a Punk after all these years, I could not be more confident that Punks are in great hands. Punks are in the hands of a non-profit that is obsessed with Punks, and not only promises to be incredible stewards of the project and help elevate the art and Matt and John to receive the recognition they deserve, but NODE is also here for the digital art community as a whole, and only getting started! This truly feels like a remarkable moment for all. For me personally, this is a major highlight of my journey that started exactly 2892 days ago today when I claimed my very first punk and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for NODE, Larva Labs, digital art, and this ever evolving art/community/connectivity paradigm that is being shaped before our very eyes. To the Punks community: it is a sincere honor to help steward the collection in this new era. I realize that many in our incredible community are more than worthy and deserving of the role that I’ve been granted. I'm excited for this opportunity and never been more proud to be a Punk. And so we all, collectively, continue to show up and push this space forwards. Cheers.

The CryptoPunks are completely and truly decentralized, created outside the bounds of traditional company or even artist control. Because of this, the Punks’ impact and reach come from a new series of online network effects among its creators, owners, and fans. The NODE foundation adds a new entry in that list, a digital art institution dedicated to the education and advancement of this new kind of art. We believe @nodefnd, and its non-profit long term focus, to be the perfect home for the Punks’ promotion and protection. Therefore, we’re delighted to be joining the board of NODE and will be working directly to assist on a number of upcoming projects to properly showcase what makes the Punks so unique. We would also like to thank @yugalabs and especially @NaughtalieStone for their careful stewardship of the project for the past few years, we look forward to working with you on this foundation together.

Today, @nodefnd will initiate the migration of CryptoPunks Discord ownership to the community moderators who've stewarded it all along. This structural decentralization aligns with the ethos of what makes Punks special: community-driven culture that thrives beyond traditional boundaries. The moderators who've shaped this space deserve to guide its future - and now this community hub will belong to those who've protected its spirit from day one. Happy Birthday, Punks. 🍻
