Today, we honor the women who work paid, unpaid, seen, and unseen. From the markets to the offices, from care work in our homes to leadership in our communities, women in Kenya continue to hold up the economy, often without recognition, protection, or fair pay. This Labour Day, we are not just celebrating work we are demanding dignity. Equal pay. Safe workplaces. Recognition of care work. Opportunities that don’t come at the cost of our wellbeing. Because a just economy must work for women fully, fairly, and unapologetically. #LabourDayKE #FeministFuture #DecentWorkNow #WomenAtWork

We were honored to host Gunilla Carlsson and Hanna Carlsson from the Embassy of Sweden at the Mukuru Suluhisho Centre during their visit to Kenya for the World Health Summit (WHS) Nairobi. The visit created space to engage on the realities of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kenya, including prevention, response, and referral pathways within community and health facility settings, while connecting with frontline teams supporting survivors. #GBV

CREAW had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the Limpopo Provincial Legislature (South Africa) during their study tour to Kenya providing a powerful platform to showcase our work in advancing women’s rights and addressing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Hosted at the Mukuru Outreach Centre, the visit offered a practical demonstration of CREAW’s integrated, community-centered approach. By linking GBVF prevention and response to the health facility, the Centre model illustrated how survivors can access holistic, survivor-centered services including referrals, psychosocial support, and legal pathways within a safe and accessible space. Through this engagement, CREAW highlighted its grassroots interventions, survivor-centered programming, and sustained advocacy efforts that continue to shape prevention, response, and accountability. The dialogue, complemented by insights from key Kenyan institutions, underscored the importance of coordinated, multi-sectoral action spanning policy, law enforcement, data systems, education, and digital spaces in addressing GBVF. By connecting community realities to institutional responses, the engagement strengthened cross-country learning and reaffirmed CREAW’s role in championing innovative, collaborative approaches to ending GBVF and advancing gender equality. #EndGBV #EqualityInAction

What happens when economic empowerment is integrated with survivor support? 👍 Better justice retention. 👍 Stronger recovery. 👍 Long-term protection. In 2025, we trained 4,129 women, provided KES 27.5M+ in grants and KES 4.2M in loans, and expanded skilling pathways for young women thus demonstrating the power of an integrated approach. What happens when we trust women’s rights organisations with flexible funding? They lead. They respond. They innovate. In 2025, we provided KES 334,960,675 in sub-grants, including KES 31.5 million in flexible funding to 24 WROs, enabling rapid, community-led responses where they are needed most. Because those closest to the issues are closest to the solutions. Engage with our 2025 Annual Report to learn more. home.creaw.org/2026/04/07/cre…

What does adolescent-responsive SRHR look like in practice? 🩺 It looks like healthcare providers who offer respectful, youth-friendly services. 🩺 It looks like health facilities that are accountable to the communities they serve. 🩺 It looks like open conversations that challenge stigma around contraception, consent, and early marriage. In 2025, we worked across six counties to make this possible by training 710 providers, strengthening 59 facilities, and engaging 4,278 community members. Read our 2025 Annual Report to explore the full story. home.creaw.org/2026/04/07/cre…

Beatrice Wambui is a poultry farmer in Nyeri county whose life has transformed since she engaged with the Jasiri Program. As a survivor of domestic violence, Beatrice struggled to make ends meet. Through the program, she underwent counselling support then was taken through financial literacy training. Armed with this knowledge and a grant, she was able to inject it to her small chicken rearing business allowing her to increase her chicken from 100 to 250. This has increased her supply and sales within her locality. Beatrice is now able to take care of her basic needs, pay education costs for her 2 children and medical costs for her ailing mother. The Jasiri Program continues to strengthen the resilience of GBV survivors, expand their access to economic opportunities, and shift social norms to enable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to thrive in entrepreneurship and employment. #JasiriProgram #YoungAfricaWorks youtube.com/watch?v=lrCQvb…

Adapting violence against women (VAW) prevention programmes across different contexts is central to prevention work. But we rarely see how those adaptations actually unfold in practice. ‘Adaptation Journeys’ is an open-access resource bringing together real cases of VAW prevention adaptations — practical, interactive, and grounded in real world decisions. Explore the journeys here 🔗 adaptationjourneys.com #AdaptationJourneys #VAWPrevention #PracticeBasedLearning
