This is REALLY BIG. Iran is charging ships a toll to pass the Strait of Hormuz, with payments being made in Crypto as per FT. Tolls reportedly start at about $1 per barrel of oil, which translates to roughly $2 million per large tanker. On an average day, around 140 ships pass through the strait within 24 hours. For 140 ships, this can generate a revenue of $280 million daily, or nearly $2 billion in Bitcoin or crypto per week. Just like US dollars now Countries will need to buy crypto to make these payments, which could significantly increase demand for any Crypto as reserve liquidity for international trade. This can positions crypto as a global trade settlement medium, not just an investment asset.
