Late Hajia Ummah El-Rufai was reportedly in the Intensive Care Unit for two weeks, yet her son wasn’t granted the chance to see her by the Nigerian government. If true, it raises serious concerns about priorities and compassion. Denying El-Rufai the opportunity to pay his final respects by attending her burial would be even more troubling. Situations like this can leave lasting impressions, especially in Arewa, if people begin to feel that political considerations are being placed above basic humanity. Regardless of differences or rivalries, empathy and respect should always come first.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago. She is the biological mother of our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai. We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.

My brother Jaafar, I respectfully disagree with your position on Professor Pantami and the conclusion you draw about his political ambition. The idea that one must abandon preaching in order to be taken seriously in politics sets up a false choice. Moral leadership and political leadership are not opposites. In fact, the absence of moral leadership is one of the main reasons our politics has deteriorated to this level. Professor Isa Ali Pantami is not confused about who he is, nor is he trying to live two incompatible lives. What you describe as split focus is actually consistency. His academic career, public service, and reform efforts all flow from the same values. That is not role conflict. That is a coherent life path. Just like our able, competent and steadfast Governor Zulum who is a combo of a professor and mallam!! You referenced a Hausa proverb about running and scratching at the same time, but the deeper crisis in Nigerian politics is not divided attention. It is the normalization of corruption, incompetence, and moral compromise. When we argue that politics must involve dirt, lies, theft, and thuggery, we are not being realistic. We are excusing failure and defending a broken system. Your description of Nigerian politics as a sewer where no one can emerge clean may reflect what has gone wrong, but it does not define what must remain so. If we insist that only those willing to steal, rig, lie, and compromise their values can govern, then we leave the country permanently in the hands of the worst among us. Brother Jaafar, you calling Pantami sadakar yalla misses the point. He is neither desperate nor confused. He is a nationally and internationally respected intellectual with experience in governance under intense scrutiny. Entering politics does not require him to discard his moral compass. It requires him to apply it in a space that badly needs it. The suggestion that clerical authority depends on moral clarity while politics survives on empty rhetoric reflects a deeply cynical view of public life. Politics does not have to be empty, and faith does not have to be silent. Societies move forward when people with strong ethical grounding refuse to leave governance to opportunists and career manipulators. Pantami does not need to become a different person to aspire to govern Gombe State. He needs to remain who he is. A disciplined thinker. A reform minded leader. Someone whose credibility comes from consistency rather than convenience. Gombe does not need another politician fluent in patronage. It needs leadership grounded in ideas, accountability, and service. The real danger is not that Pantami brings moral conviction into politics. The real danger is that politics continues without people like him. That is why his ambition is not only legitimate. It is necessary. May God inspire more people like him to challenge the status quo and contest for political office. @ProfIsaPantami @realFFK @masuzafi

I really doubt if Pantami’s phantom political ambition is going to work as long as he wants to be identified as both a preacher and politician. A Hausa proverb has it that you cannot be running and scratching your itchy nyash simultaneously. This clearly means you cannot sprint effectively as split focus kills momentum. The relative import of this proverb on Sheikh Professor Honourable Isa Ali Pantami is the challenge of role conflict and cognitive dissonance. What Pantami needs at the moment is to avoid acting like ‘sadakar yalla’ – both a destitute and courtesan. He should doff his preaching garb and take a total career switch from a spiritual leader to a political leader. Clerical authority depends on moral clarity, while politics is built on empty rhetoric. Nigerian politics is grimy. You cannot work in a sewer line and expect to come out clean. Mallam should prepare to mudsling, dip his paws in a cookie jar, dance to the tune of Rarara songs, shake hands with female foreign investors and diplomats, visit churches, steal some billions from security vote, divert public funds for political activities, hire thugs during rallies, lie during campaign, rig during election, take kickbacks after contract award, etc.
