U.S. Department of Labor Launches AI in Registered Apprenticeship Innovation Portal to Prepare Workforce for AI Era The U.S. Department of Labor today unveiled a new online resource designed to help organizations build artificial intelligence literacy and expand AI-focused Registered Apprenticeship programs. The AI in Registered Apprenticeship Innovation Portal serves as a one-stop hub offering practical tools, guidance, and resources for integrating AI skills into apprenticeship training. The launch was announced during National Apprenticeship Week at an event titled “Building the AI-Ready Workforce through Registered Apprenticeship.” The portal builds directly on the department’s AI Literacy Framework released earlier this year and emphasizes responsible use of AI tools to boost productivity, work quality, and adaptability across industries. Resources on the site are organized into three main sections: • AI Skills and Literacy in Registered Apprenticeship: Explains AI literacy and provides general training materials to help organizations build AI competency. • AI Skill Building by Industry: Offers tailored training modules for sectors including education, finance, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and others. • Three Pathways to Integrate AI: Organizations can (1) join an existing National Registered Apprenticeship program, (2) create a new AI-focused program, or (3) update current programs to include AI skills. Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling highlighted the initiative’s importance: “The department is committed to ensuring that every American has the opportunity to thrive in our nation’s workforce, especially in a world that is rapidly being reshaped by artificial intelligence… marking a major step forward in preparing the American workforce for the jobs of the future.” Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Henry Mack added: “The launch reflects this Administration’s commitment to ensuring American workers and businesses are equipped to lead in an AI-driven economy… the Department is taking concrete action to build the workforce of the future, today.” The new portal is part of broader efforts to equip workers and employers with the skills needed to succeed in an AI-powered economy. Employers, training providers, and workforce organizations are encouraged to explore the resources and participate in National Apprenticeship Week events. It is a vital resource and I am using it right now… dol.gov/newsroom/relea…
