Bluebell season is wonderful but please, please, please ensure that you are not growing Spanish Bluebells in the UK or Ireland 🪻 The fact that these things are still widely sold is awful. They are highly invasive and hybridise with the native species....slowly wiping them out. The leaves of the Spanish variety are about 3 cm wide whilst the native species are much slimmer and their flowers, which are quite often pink or white, grow on both sides of the stem giving the plant an upright profile whilst our native Bluebells have that fairytale drooping appearance 🪄 The plants are toxic so bring a pair of gloves on your walks and pull them out. Digging them out is much more effective but the trauma of being pulled out for two or three seasons will eventually kill them. In my community Masafer Yatta, the Israeli occupation exposed its true face once again. Under the false pretext of "stolen sheep," dozens of armed settlers - accompanied and backed by Israeli occupation soldiers and police - stormed our village, going house to house, targeting any Palestinian who owns livestock. This wasn't a search. It was a clear act of colonial violence — settlers with guns invading our homes, backed fully by the military. By the end of the day, they attacked the home of our neighbors and stole three sheep, and physically assaulted the residents. The army even attempted to arrest my cousin - the co director of "No Other Land film" . They didn't succeed in detaining him, but they tried to beat him instead. No settlers were questioned. No sheep were returned. This is not a "dispute." It's a racist, state-sanctioned campaign of ethnic cleansing. The settlers act with impunity because they are the frontline of a regime that sees Palestinians as disposable. What happened today is part of a broader apartheid system designed to erase us from our land — and it is happening under the full protection of the Israeli military.
