“But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.”
Psalm 59 was written by David as Saul began his campaign to kill him and eliminate him as a threat to the throne (verse 1). It was written in a time of great distress, and in response to this danger, David focuses on praising God and His power to save rather than on his circumstances and the unfairness of the situation.
Like David, we have a choice: either to succumb to our circumstances and fear or to turn to God, our “Strength” and refuge in times of trouble.
And that choice to make God our strength and refuge is something we need to make every morning, regardless of yesterday’s battles. And we do so, realizing that the Lord has new mercies for us, which speaks of His loving-kindness at the core of our relationship with Him.
Therefore, with all the breath in our lungs, we should begin our day with praise that gives life not only to our physical bodies but also to our soul and spirit.
Consider now the worship song, “Great Are You Lord.”
“You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
To You only”
I pray for blessings today as we choose to worship and praise our King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, our Savior, Jesus. Take care, and God bless.

Whenever the Armor of God is mentioned, we immediately think of God’s defensive weaponry, including the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of peace, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation.
But God wants us to move against the enemy, not just stand there and take it. So, He gave us two offensive weapons to defeat Satan.
The first weapon is the sword of the Spirit, which Paul identifies as the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).
The writer of Hebrews says, “For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
The Apostle Paul says all Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16), meaning the Holy Spirit inspires it. It’s the Holy Spirit who helps us wield it. But to wield it, we have to know it, so we need to study to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15).
There’s one more offensive weapon. It’s praying in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18).
Praying in the Spirit has been debated by many, but let me give you an all-inclusive answer. It is prayer directed and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 8:26, the Apostle Paul said, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered.”
Praying in the Spirit is our long-range artillery. It pounds the enemy’s position and weakens his attacks, because the Holy Spirit knows exactly where to aim to do the most damage.
The Apostle Paul’s advice is to take up the word of God and always pray, making sure that prayer is fueled and directed by the Holy Spirit.

A Scripture and a Prayer: “God’s Grace in Affliction”
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)
Prayer:
Lord, You say that all things work together, both the good and the bad, for our good, and now You are saying that the afflictions we suffer are not as serious as we think. This is because You are working them out within us into something more lasting that will end in glory as we enter into Your eternity in heaven once this life filled with afflictions is finished. But this isn’t just for our eternal life in heaven; it is also what You supply us with now, Your grace and mercy in our afflictions and in our time of need. Your promise is that we can boldly come before Your throne of grace to receive both Your mercy and grace in our time of need. Help us, therefore, Lord, to remember this precious promise and always remember that the veil has been rent and that we now have direct access to You in and by Your grace. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN
