Meet the lifesaver in yellow - the Westland Sea King HAR.3 What makes it special? Powered by twin Rolls-Royce Gnome gas turbine engines, the HAR.3 entered RAF Search & Rescue service in 1978 and replaced the Whirlwind HAR.10. It’s fitted with extended fuel tanks, enhanced navigation aids, search radar, night-vision capability, enabling all-weather, day and night operations over land and sea. It carries a crew of four and can rescue up to six stretchers in medical evacuation roles. Fun fact: Its winch is over four times longer than its predecessors, and its cabin was lengthened behind the side door to give more space for survivors and medical equipment - innovations that helped it respond effectively 🚁

The Red Arrows arrived at Ostrava yesterday, ready for the NATO Days airshow this weekend. After the jets were parked, the engineers got to work on servicing the aircraft, the pilots debriefed and the public relations team coordinated very sizeable media interest.

Meet one of Europe's frontline aircraft - the Eurofighter Typhoon What makes it special? Equipped with twin EJ200 afterburning turbofan engines, the Typhoon can reach Mach 2 and sustain supersonic speeds without afterburner. Its advanced radar and Defensive Aids Sub-System (DASS) provide exceptional situational awareness and survivability, while its 13 hardpoints allow for a wide range of precision-guided roles. Fun fact: The Typhoon has a thrust-to-weight ratio greater than 1:1, meaning it can accelerate vertically – a capability only a handful of modern aircraft can achieve ✈️

After an intense week of flying with our colleagues at Central Gliding Squadron of RAF Syerston, CGI Nathan Jessop has been awarded his B2 Category. This enables him to deliver training to our visiting Gliding Scholarship cadets, taking them all the way towards solo standard.
