@andyserling @ScottMJeffreys A pick up mount in spirit, I guess, but Jaime rode this horse in the Sheepshead Bay - and gave her a perfect trip that day, too

@ScottMJeffreys She was bad but I don’t totally disagree. Jaime gave the winner a great ride

@andyserling Think about Jaime Rodriguez getting a pick-up mount in the $500,000 Grade 2 Flower Bowl. As for La Mehana, we can say that the horse did not fire today, but what exactly was the plan for this horse in a half-million dollar race? Sorry but that a very poor ride.

@DailyRacingForm @DRFGrening .Sad day. I was just a kid but still remember going to the old Siro's seminars at Saratoga just to hear him talk racing. He was so far ahead of everyone else doing that kind of "public handicapping" at the time. Paul was the best. Meant a lot that I got to call him a friend later

😂 Call me old fashioned, but if tasked with voting for the Horse of the Year, the very first criteria that I believe should be considered, would be which was the best horse to have raced in the U.S. that year? Not the only criteria, of course, but surely an extremely important one. I'm well aware of the degree to which voters employ subjective criteria before casting their votes, and that a very high percentage choose to emphasize the importance of X number of races in the U.S., and dirt performers over turf performers. But if RR was objectively a better horse than the three top vote getters, which I believe to clearly be the case, the fact that he didn't receive a single vote, reveals something interesting, if not also damning, about the thought processes of the voters.

@Tinky47flat What difference does it make that Rebel's Romance is "better" than those horses?

‡ Rebel's Romance In the wake of the Hardwicke Stakes (Gr. 2), just run at Royal Ascot, it's amusing to look back at the 2024 American Eclipse Awards, and note the top three vote getters for Horse of the Year: Thorpedo Anna – 193 Sierra Leone – 10 Fierceness – 5 I say that because setting aside the long-standing biases against turf horses, and foreign horses that race just once or twice in the U.S., Rebel's Romance, the winner of the Hardwicke, and last year's BC Turf, is so much better than than those three, that any award based on purely objective data would have seen him as the unanimous choice! He has now won 18 of 26 races, including Group/Grade I races in Britain, the U.S. (two BC Turf races), Germany, Dubai, and Hong Kong. A truly outstanding horse!

@DRF_Beer Hey there Mr. Beer. Do you post your thoughts on this w/e's BEL Stakes races that you didn't list on the DRF YouTube channel (like the Ogden Phipps, Belmont Gold Cup, Pennine Ridge, Wonder Again, & True North stakes) anywhere else? Thank-you for any info you can provide

@mesave31 The Gold Cup had a two-horse race feel to me. Either the in-form German shipper on the rail, or Limited Liability. I couldn't get to the others, though I am a big Grand Sonata fan

@mesave31 The Phipps was a pick one or pick too many race for me. I think Leslie's Rose is fine with the distance & will be a fair price. Good enough for me.

@DRFHersh It's not "evidence", but the case for any/everyone in that field was that Skelly is a massive fraud.

Durante a 6yo making his 37th start and if you can find evidence in the lifetime PPs suggesting he could win the Aristides please send it along.
Marcus Hersh@DRFHersh

David Jacobson magic in the Aristides @ChurchillDowns as 33-1 Durante springs the upset. Durante, incredibly, led early through a posted 20.93 quarter, ceded the lead to World Record & Skelly, came back on and ran down World Record. Skelly missed the break, faded out of it.

@Horsesndealin Dennis doesn't ever have many horses but he gets the most out of them. He actually has a big positive lifetime ROI from all starters ($2.59).

@DRF_Beer Calling a 3rd in a $2.5M race an “unsuccessful trip” is a tad harsh, no? 😁
