Maritime businesses are ready to invest millions in decarbonising Europe's leading cruise port, Southampton - but grid constraints are holding them back. I asked the Energy Secretary to meet with me and industry leaders. He and his team agreed!

In contrast to the relentless fares hikes under the previous Government – under which fares rose by 60% between 2010 and 2024 – we’ve frozen fares this year so that people won’t pay a penny more on season tickets and many types of single and return fare.

The weather isn’t the only thing that’s frozen this morning! ❄️ Thanks to commuters at Southampton Central station who braved the cold and stopped by to chat to me about the first rail fare freeze in 30 years.

Tonight in Parliament, I'll be proudly voting for the Labour government's Budget; a Budget that will make a real and positive difference to people in Southampton Itchen. 👇

While holding onto the memory of those we have lost, we also have hope for the future. I really welcome that this Labour government has launched a new HIV action plan, backed by £170m of funding, to end HIV transmission in England once and for all. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

On World AIDS Day, I'm joining with people across Southampton to remember and honour the memory of everyone who has lost their life to HIV-AIDS and support those living with it today.

Some initial thoughts from me on today's Budget. The right and fair choices to tackle the cost of living and support our economy and public services. ✅

My ask is clear: give our city its fair share when the next allocations are announced, so we can protect and improve the valued public services that my constituents rely on. I'll keep you posted as the funding allocations are announced in the next few weeks. (6/ end🧵)

This government is starting to put this right by reforming how council funding is allocated. They’ve said that they will ensure councils are funded fairly, based on the latest deprivation data and local need, so that communities with the highest demands get what they need. (4/)
