5. HE FINDS WAYS TO WIN. Mendoza's signature run in the CFP title game is a brilliant fourth-down run call that easily gets a first down, but it's his balance, toughness and awareness that makes this what became the game-winning TD for IU.

4. He finds ways to win. Penn State had been beating Mendoza up all game. Under a minute to play and clinging to a four-point lead they blitz again, except this time Mendoza knew where to put the ball even if it meant having to throw under pressure at the last second. A little lucky? Maybe, but the Hoosiers won because of this play.

FIVE PLAYS: Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana 1. Iowa blitzes and shifts coverage at the snap, two things that Mendoza didn't always deal with well but this time he did as he places this deep ball perfectly between defenders & the sideline for a 37-yard gain. Stats say he didn't hit these throws as often as others, but this is evidence he indeed CAN hit these deep far sideline throws.

FIVE PLAYS: Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame 1. Love bursts into open space as soon as he sees it, then cuts incredibly quickly as soon as the space is gone because defenders show up. Then repeats the process again as he escapes out the front door & outruns everybody, barreling downhill into the end zone. He did this a bunch.

5. Love caught 63 passes over three seasons (27 in 2025). Here's one where he had a great release and adjusted to the ball by using his right hand to keep it in front of him then snatch it with both hands. Great concentration and coordination. The rest is just his natural downhill speed & power to end the play with a score.

4. Love's contact balance and power also shows up in short yardage/goal-line situations. He did all he could to survive a tackle and still force his way into the end zone on this goal line plunge.

3. Another example of Love insta-accelerating as soon as he sees space. Check out the top speed before juking a defender to avoid the tackle. But it's the balance to stay on his feet for five extra yards AND the powering through two tacklers for another 10 yards that make him an after-contact machine.

2. A stiff-arm & another great cut by Love to escape a tackle behind the line of scrimmage and get to the edge. Then he hurdles a defender and nearly scored. The hurdling was something Love did less of in 2025, but his ability to jump, leap and dive were all examples of his freakish athleticism. This play was called back by a holding penalty.
