I can’t really understand this deal from the Red Sox perspective. While they didn’t give up much and Contreras is a good player, his archetype as a player doesn’t fit well with Fenway’s dimensions. Contreras is an incredibly pure hitter, but Fenway often rewards players that have extreme batted ball profiles (an example being Jarren Duran’s incredibly low 26.2% oppo rate on his batted balls in 2025). Because of this, we can’t really assume Contreras is going improve or even continue his current production on his new team. Best of luck to him though. @Yankees, I’m gonna need you to sign Yoán Moncada. You might ask why I want the Yankees to sign a career .758 OPS hitter, but that doesn’t tell the full story. Moncada is in the top ten percent of max exit velocity in the entire league, and he’s pretty much a dead pull hitter from the left side. He’s one of the best hitters when it comes to discipline in the league through his whole career along with line drive rate/LA sweet spot %.
