Had someone stop me today to say he lost his brother to alcoholism a month and a half ago. Somehow he found my column from 7 years about the loss of my brother and said it gave him some solace. That was part of the intent when I wrote it. I’m both glad…and sad that it’s still relevant. tinyurl.com/3ms4yds4

A budget process that allows for review and debate would represent a significant step toward greater transparency and accountability by Democrats. Open engagement and a willingness to consider proposals are essential to delivering thoughtful, effective solutions for NJ residents.

The current school funding approach continues to raise serious concerns about fairness and sustainability across NJ. A more balanced, transparent formula is essential to ensure all districts—not just a select few—have the resources they need to support students effectively.

Those of us who raised questions about Rutgers athletics spending practices have been consistently - and inaccurately - that oversight is sufficient and “don’t worry about the potential costs of its joining the Big Ten…will generate huge $ benefit down the road!” Yeah…not so much. I already have a bill that would mandate outside supervision of Rutgers Athletics spending. Time to push like hell to get it done! declanoscanlon.com/taxes-press-re… njleg.state.nj.us/bill-search/20…

@declanoscanlon I think the businesses will probably just eliminate full services if there’s a choice. Then, this state won’t give you bags in a grocery store, or pump your gas. At least when I have to pump my own gas in Florida, I have someone at Publix helping with bagging my items.

Yes! Totally makes our point. All of these blocked pumps would be open to folks wanting to pump their own. We self-pumpers (can’t wait for the comments!) would be in and out and out of the lines for full service. Everyone wins.

Jokes aside this picture is not a joke. There needs to be partial ban lift. This is simply not logical to the consumer. Can’t blame wawa not wanting to pay more than 2 employees $18hr to do something the rest of the country doesn’t have to deal with. A law from the 1940s has no place in 2026.

After the Trump Tax Cuts, the share of taxes paid by the rich went UP. Data from the House Ways and Means Committee shows lower income Americans saw larger tax relief. Facts matter, even if Democrats won’t admit it.

It is truly terrifying the lengths spineless politicians will go to to score votes. Selling out taxpayers and the future fiscal health of cities and entire states is commonplace. As long as voters in blue states continue to not just permit, but to encourage this suicidal behavior…it won’t stop. Our children and grandchildren will be crushed by these costs. Or they’ll be forced to leave. Tragic.

"Our head count in Manhattan when I got to JPMorgan was 35,000 and now is 26,000. Our head count in Texas started at 11,000, now it's 33,000. That's what happens." 📉 When federal funding meant to address learning loss in Newark gets squandered, it’s not just taxpayer dollars lost. It’s opportunities stolen from kids who deserve better. 🛑 Enough is enough.

New Jersey families deserve a system where transparency, accountability, and fairness guide every funding decision - not politics! Real relief means treating every community with equal respect, not picking winners and losers.

I hereby denounce this total lunacy!!! You can tell that this Governor and her minions are from out of state! They don’t understand that native New Jerseyans - due to high intake of fried funnel cakes, pizza and pork roll - are more flammable than people from other states!! Letting us pump our own gas would lead to massive conflagration!! Never mind the other negative impacts we see as a result of this policy: massive unemployment, everyone smelling like gasoline, senior citizens found dead in their cars on the side of the road….tanks empty, everyone walking around pissed off and calling for return of mandatory full service! Only 49 other states, & almost every other country on the planet, permit self serve gas so it’s not like it’s been proven to be safe and effective. Stop this insanity!
New Jersey@NJGov

Today, we are announcing plans to lift the statewide ban on self-service gas stations in New Jersey. We encourage New Jerseyans to familiarize themselves with gas pumps as this change is in effect immediately, April 1, 2026.

Hey Nick. The proposal we have on the table would mandate lots of full serve. Much more than any other state. But I reiterate…49 other states permit self serve…and there isn’t one that is considering going back to all full serve. And there’s no correlation to self serve and unemployment rate increases. Station owners can’t find enough people to work these jobs. That’s why you see so many closed lanes. And why lines sometimes exist. Just think, if we had self serve I’d use it..and get out of your way at the full service pump! Lastly, gasoline is a very price elastic product. Stations will save some $ and pass on what they have to to stay competitive.

@declanoscanlon When traveling I pump my own gas and don’t like it. If you pay cash, you have to go in and out of the station office or booth to pay, possibly get a refund if the amount your pre-pay was too much. Plus, people will lose their jobs and the owners will NOT pass on the difference.
