DSC is hiring an Outreach Manager to help advance and accelerate the growth of the organization through program administration, managing social media and external communications, and supporting community engagement activities.

Her special love for the children was embodied in creative collaborations with schools. She showed Detroit what real support looked like. Our lives in Detroit will be so very different now that Barbara has gone on to her new life.

Barbara went on to found Societie of the Culturally Concerned, (a DSC forbearer) which gave tributes to under-recognized area musicians. This organization planned the Bluebird Reunions of 1991-1997. They also offered scholarships to emerging young artists.

Libations for Barbara Cox - a champion and advocate of Detroit music and community. Barbara blazed a path for us to follow. This Black History Month, we’ve lost a leader for preserving Black Detroit History.

In tribute to Graystone Jazz Museum, McKinney will include compositions by the late Dr. Thomas “Beans” Bowles, such as Stevie Wonder’s first #1 hit for Motown “Fingertips.” In his post-Motown years, Dr. Bowles was a director of the Graystone museum’s orchestra. #detroitjazz
