It's weird to be here again.
I told myself (and the world) that I was done with games. The Asylum decision and many of the events leading up to that moment left me in a place where the thought of game development made me feel sick.
But then I went to Tokyo. And at the Plushie Dreadfuls pop-up event, I met people from around the world who shared with me a common story. A story of how my games and plushies had helped them. And many of those people asked me to continue building game worlds around the mental and emotional health themes and...
Well, here we are. Concept art for Plushie Dreadfuls "Spare Hearts" and 2D asset sheets for the 3D models our little team will create to fill out this scene.
Yep, you heard that right. A little team. A programmer. A 3D artist. And our existing team of 2D artists. We have a game concept document. An idea for a mini vertical slice. And the weirdest thing of all (for me) an actual game engine (Godot) is being fired up! Wth?
And I feel really good about this. The people involved are all people I've known, loved, and trusted for years. We're all covered in the same kind of game industry scars - meaning we know where all the landmines are. Maybe we can avoid many of those this time around?
Anyway, here are some tree stumps. They may not look like much to you. But they represent a pretty critical rebirth for me and this little team 🧙
