Attacks on healthcare workers and facilities in conflict are at record levels. Doctors, patients, and hospitals must never be targets. Parties to conflict must comply with international humanitarian law, and permit independent and timely investigations when incidents occur.

The UK, alongside 🇩🇰🇫🇷🇬🇷🇱🇻, has organised an Arria meeting this Friday on the West Bank. Council members will hear powerful testimonies on the acute challenges facing Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

We must seize this historic opportunity to implement the Peace Plan for Gaza, and achieve a two-state solution. It is vital that all parties respect the ceasefire, remove constraints on humanitarian aid and fully implement phase two of the peace plan.

The UK deplores egregious settler violence in the West Bank. Condemnation alone is not enough, it must be translated into concrete steps by the Israeli Govenment to prevent attacks against Palestinians, ensure accountability and stop illegal settlement expansion.

Free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is a cornerstone of global security and prosperity. Along with 90 countries and partners, @SDoughtyMP joined Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani to call for the urgent and unimpeded opening of the Strait.

The UK welcomes the ceasefire extension. We want to see negotiations restart, a comprehensive settlement and full reopening of the Strait without restrictions or tolls. Any return to hostilities would be a major setback for the region, the global economy and cost-of-living.

It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened. This must be a long lasting and workable solution, without tolls or restrictions on routes. Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation. We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.

The UK is clear that Lebanon must be included in the ceasefire. I have seen the vital work of @redcrosslebanon in Tebnine; the killing of an aid worker is tragic. Ongoing strikes risk a humanitarian crisis. Hizballah must disarm and Israeli strikes stop now.

The ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz is deeply damaging. Getting global shipping moving is vital to ease cost of living pressures. The UK has convened more than 40 nations who share our aim to restore freedom of navigation. This week the UK and France will co-host a summit to advance work on a coordinated, independent, multinational plan to safeguard international shipping when the conflict ends.

Throughout the conflict, @Keir_Starmer has been clear: we must see full de-escalation. In the Middle East this week, he met with our international allies to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and thanked our Armed Forces for their tireless work to keep us safe. Britain has been buffeted by crises for almost two decades now. We will emerge from this one stronger, more secure and more resilient.

I welcome the ceasefire agreement reached overnight, which will bring a moment of relief to the region and the world. Together with our partners we must do all we can to support and sustain this ceasefire, turn it into a lasting agreement and re-open the Strait of Hormuz.
