Today, the EEA Joint Committee incorporated 88 legal acts into the EEA Agreement, which extends the EU Internal Market to Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway presented their official position papers (EEA EFTA Comments) on the Roadworthiness Package and the AgoraEU programme proposal. The EEA EFTA States and the EU also exchanged views on secure connectivity and cooperation on space in the EEA.

In a new position paper (EEA EFTA Comment), Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway welcome the EU's new Roadworthiness Package and support its ambition to promote road safety. The EEA EFTA States encourage co-legislators to maintain the current scope of tests and minimum frequencies for periodic technical inspections for cars older than ten years. Experts from Statistics Norway, @EU_Eurostat and @UNECE contributed to a peer review of Moldova's National Statistical System. Peer reviews help identify areas that need support, and provide recommendations to ultimately improve the quality of national official statistics. At the 61st EEA Council, Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, highlighted the importance of the EEA Agreement for Europe’s security. She described the EEA EFTA–EU relationship as “extremely important” in today’s uncertain and rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. “We are much stronger together,” she said, stressing that shared democratic and fundamental values make cooperation crucial. @eu2025dk

When asked to describe EEA cooperation in one word, Iceland’s Foreign Minister, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, said “absolutely crucial.” After having chaired the 61st EEA Council on behalf of the EEA EFTA States, she described discussions with the EU as good and constructive, including sensitive topics that required openness on both sides. @thorgkatrin @MFAIceland
