Today ESM MD @pierregramegna welcomed Professor @BindseilUlrich from the Technische Universität Berlin at the ESM to discuss the European digital finance Ecosystem. Professor Bindseil also gave a seminar entitled "𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 (𝘊𝘉𝘋𝘊) - 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢" to ESM colleagues and external experts. The seminar was moderated by ESM Chief Economist @r_strauch.
While highlighting the specifics of retail payment systems, he explained why the public discourse on retail payment architecture can be confusing. He discussed the various perspectives of key retail payment industry stakeholders, drawing lessons from a public policy perspective.
The seminar was based on two papers by Professor Bindseil.

During his visit to a Greece, ESM MD @pierregramegna spoke to @CostasPap of @parapolitika about Greece’s turnaround. It is the result of steady reform, disciplined fiscal choices, and credibility rebuilt over time.
Public debt is on a clear downward path, and fiscal policy has moved from years of large deficits to primary surpluses. That matters in a world that feels increasingly unstable.
The energy shock stemming from the Middle East conflict is a signal that geopolitical tensions are no longer rare events. Countries that enter these periods with stronger foundations 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘣 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦.
The same logic applies to other European countries. Europe is better prepared than a few years ago, but is not immunce.
▶️ Increasing energy security, competitiveness, and productivity need to remain centre stage.
Building resilience is not about quick fixes. It is about 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮, and 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 when uncertainty is high.
