Bioluminescent plankton have been seen in Cornwall bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… Noctiluca scintillans is their name (AKA sea sparkle). This is what these tiny, single-celled dinoflagellates look like. @zeiss_micro @BBCCornwall @WMNNews

I've spent years working on this and it really comes down to this:
Any single tiny thing you can do to feel like you're helping build a better future is more productive than 10,000 hours of dread.

not to be barbie but how do you guys cope with the growing sense of dread that the world is legitimately going to end in our lifetimes and everything you know and love will collapse into chaos

❓ A new NOC-led study has put a major question mark over the role a unique group of tiny microscopic plants plays in driving ocean carbon storage.

Happy 25th birthday to the #Argo program! We’re proud to have been part of making this global ocean observing network a success since 1999!
Here’s to the next 25! 🥳

I'm so excited to be featured in this excellent article that highlights how important plankton are and the key roles of @osparcomm and the @Plkt_Manifesto in assessing and championing plankton.

Extreme defense. The planktonic, zoea larva of a long-clawed porcelain crab (Pisidia longicornis) was in my Plymouth sample this week. The long, javelin-like rostrum and two posterior spines defend against being eaten, the constant danger of planktonic life. @zeiss_micro

Who knew the airport runway in St. Thomas is a hotspot for more than just planes? We spotted this stunning Elkhorn #coral (Acropora palmata) thriving on one of the runway dolos while snorkeling around! ✈️🫱🏾🫲🏼🪸

We flirted with G5 storm conditions earlier with the precursor, but now the main event is here. We're inside the core of the #solarstorm and entering G5-level territory again. This time to stay. It would not surprise me to see G5 conditions for the next 6+ hours. Expect sporadic #GPS signal reception issues, HF/VHF #radio disruptions, deep into to mid-latitudes, plus visible #aurora down to low-latitudes over the next 6-12 hours!

The U.S. has been pumping sand onto eroding beaches for nearly a century. As climate change worsens, there’s no end in sight trib.al/uMceCBL
