How did #Europe’s #energy leaders build momentum in 2025, and what are their key priorities for 2026? Today, we take a closer look at the reflections shared by @azeem, Founder of Exponential View and Executive Fellow at @Harvard and @Stanford. Azhar emphasises the importance of asking the right questions to keep pace with rapid technological change: “Is your organisation evolving quickly enough? Will your customers’ needs be met in time? What changes are required in the way your organisation conducts business in this environment?” A call for senior executives to fully internalise the scale of the #AI transformation — the most significant technological shift since the arrival of #electricity in Europe in the early 20th century. Looking ahead to the 2026 edition, Azhar hopes to see clear evidence that Europe’s energy ecosystem has made substantial progress in delivering the infrastructure required for AI data centres. He expects the central discussion to focus on the level of confidence and excitement surrounding the construction of multi‑gigawatt data centres, years earlier than anyone thought possible in Europe. Power Summit 2026 will take place in Helsinki on 3–4 June. Save your spot now: lnkd.in/eiA9UXxK Watch the full video playlist: lnkd.in/erZaZmSm

There is no dramatic moment when a power grid comes back to life. Just a hum. Today marks four years since russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine – four years of systematic strikes on the country's energy infrastructure, designed to make the cold and the dark do what its army could not. DTEK's engineers have answered each strike the same way: by going back to work. The transformer restarts. A dispatcher reads coordinates into a radio. Somewhere across the city, a window lights up. 4 years. We simply didn't stop. Our energy powers life.

Last week, Eurelectric’s Hydro Working Group met in person at the Kembs hydropower plant on the Rhine, hosted by @EDFofficiel. Beyond the working group discussions, participants had the opportunity to visit the site and learn first-hand about the history and operation of this nearly 100-year-old, 160 MW facility. The visit highlighted the dual role of hydropower on the Rhine: delivering clean, flexible electricity while supporting one of Europe’s busiest inland shipping corridors through the operation of river locks. Hydropower remains a cornerstone of Europe’s renewable energy mix, providing stability and flexibility that are essential for a power system with growing shares of wind and solar. Seeing these assets in operation, and exchanging with colleagues from across Europe, is a reminder of the value of strong cooperation within the hydro community. A sincere thank you to our French member Tabary Luc and the EDF teams for the excellent organisation and warm welcome. #Hydropower #RenewableEnergy #Grids

AI is shifting from experimentation to real-world impact in Europe’s power sector. Last week, Eurelectric’s first hashtag#Digitopia meeting of 2026 marked the kick-off this year's Digitopia series, hosted at E.ON's headquarters alongside E-world. The session brought together DSOs, technology partners and policymakers to explore how AI can be scaled responsibly and effectively across Europe’s electricity system. Under the theme “From AI Promise to Power Sector Practice: Scaling Trusted AI in Europe’s Electricity System”, discussions spanned strategy, regulation and real-world deployment. Part I – EU AI rules shaping the power sector The meeting opened with an executive scene-setter by Marten Bunnemann (E.ON), followed by Hadrien Thebault (European Commission), who outlined how EU AI policy can support a stronger, more resilient electricity system. Part II – From vision to value: AI deployment success stories Concrete use cases showed how AI is already delivering value across the system: – Dirk Schäfer and Léopold Dardel (CGI) on AI-enabled forecasting in EV charging ecosystems – Daniel Einwag (Schneider Electric) on accelerating DER connections with Ellevio and @ENWL – Christopher Schmitt (Zühlke Group) on agentic AI for asset reliability and day-to-day grid performance Part III – AI in action for DSOs The final session focused on operational deployment: – Daniel Vester (Westnetz) on selective congestion forecasting for proactive grid planning – Florine Cardin (Enedis) on embedding AI directly into operational grid management A key moment was the announcement of Eurelectric’s 2026 hashtag#Digitopia Knowledge Partners – CGI, Kaluza, Microsoft and Schneider Electric. Each partner will host one Digitopia meeting this year, supporting a continuous, hands-on exchange between utilities, technology providers and policymakers. The day concluded with live technology demos at the E.ON and Schneider Electric booths at E-world, offering a tangible look at how AI is already reshaping Europe’s power sector. Thank you to everyone who joined this kick-off meeting. We look forward to continuing the conversation at the next hashtag#Digitopia meeting during the hashtag#PowerSummit2026 in Helsinki on 2 June.💡 #AI #Digitalisation #Eurelectric #Digitopia

⚡ Extreme weather is no longer a stress test for power systems. It’s a constant operating condition. Storms, floods, heatwaves and wildfires are increasingly affecting electricity networks, with vegetation-related incidents remaining a major cause of outages, especially on overhead lines. As electrification accelerates, grid resilience is becoming a core pillar of energy security. 🔍 A new case study with Enline shows how technology can make a concrete difference. Following a severe storm that cut power to more than 1,700 customers, predictive analysis revealed that the outage could have been avoided. Using digital twins, satellite and LiDAR data, and AI-driven risk classification, high-risk vegetation could have been identified and addressed weeks in advance. 📘 Reducing Vegetation-Related Outages with Digital Twin and VGM👉 lnkd.in/eFxaNqDA The case illustrates a broader shift already highlighted in Eurelectric’s recent work: resilience is built through anticipation, not faster reaction. Our studies show that climate-driven extreme weather is becoming a structural risk for the power sector, and that all grid assets, from transmission to distribution, are exposed. 🔗 For further context: Redefining Energy Security in the Age of Electricity 👉 lnkd.in/eCRg6eQD The Coming Storm: Building electricity resilience to extreme weather 👉 lnkd.in/egN5M_Rz Digital, risk-based solutions like Enline’s demonstrate how utilities can move from reactive maintenance to preventive action, reducing outages, costs and operational uncertainty, while strengthening security of supply.

📢 Live from the Munich Security Conference: Eurelectric launches Battle‑tested power systems, a new report assessing how prepared Europe’s power sector really is - and what must change to protect our infrastructure. “Our electricity system is facing a new reality of increasing threats. Preparing for, responding to and recovering from both physical and hybrid attacks must become a core part of power companies’ strategies,” said Eurelectric President Markus Rauramo. Drawing on lessons from Ukraine and recent incidents across Europe, the report shows that while utilities are adapting to a rapidly evolving threat landscape, preparedness must be strengthened. Information sharing and crisis coordination remain fragmented, and supply‑chain resilience for critical equipment is still fragile. The report sets out concrete steps utilities and policymakers can take now - from improving situational awareness and crisis readiness, to reinforcing critical assets, strengthening repair capabilities and embedding cyber resilience by design. It also underlines the importance of fully implementing existing EU legislation and supporting investment frameworks that reward resilience. ➡️ Download the full report to see the priority actions Europe must take to protect its power systems: lnkd.in/eCRg6eQD #EnergySecurity #MunichSecurityConference

Energy has turned into a battlefield. In today’s geopolitical climate, critical power infrastructure faces a growing array of risks – from physical sabotage and drone incursions to digital attacks targeting network operations. Understanding this evolving threat landscape and translating it into actionable preparedness is essential for utilities, policymakers and governments alike. Electricity is now on the front line and we need to ensure that essential services keep on running during crises. Our President Markus Rauramo shares some of the knowledge gained by Fortum thanks to a thorough practice of preparedness and a study conducted for them by Rasmussen Global. This study shows how Russia is targeting electricity infrastructure in Ukraine – and, crucially, tells us what it means for preparedness across the EU electricity industry. Drawing on this context and the hard lessons from recent hybrid and kinetic threats, Eurelectric has produced a comprehensive analysis of electricity infrastructure risks across all of Europe. This is more than sectoral risk mapping – it’s a strategic compass for foresight, resilience and joint action. Mark your calendars: We will officially launch this EU-wide electricity infrastructure risk analysis on 13 February at the Munich Security Conference – with insights from industry leaders, policymakers and security experts. This report will highlight strategic vulnerabilities, preparedness gaps and concrete recommendations for utilities and public authorities as they safeguard Europe’s power backbone. Let’s shift the conversation from reactive risk management to forward-looking resilience – because in a world where electricity is targeted, security of supply is inseparable from security itself. 👉 Check the full interview here: bit.ly/3McYRX7 #EnergySecurity #Electricity #Infrastructure #Resilience #MunichSecurityConference
