This is a good example of a pattern we’ve seen for years in Western media when it comes to Iran, especially how they talk about the Pahlavi era. SAVAK has become a kind of shorthand that people in the West casually drop to sound informed about Iranian history. They helped establishing crafted narratives and disinformation about the reality of pre-1979. But at the same time, there’s almost NO conversation , and very very little awareness of the massive wealth figures like the families of Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani or Ali Shamkhani have looted from Iran, or even basic knowledge of the IRGC intelligence institutions such as VAJA or SAS who have killed, hanged and tortured hundreds of thousands. That gap isn’t accidental. It shows how successful the Islamists have been in presenting themselves as “the oppressed,” and the victim, while in reality maintaining a system of control, extraction, and repression, an actual fascistic local colonization which is framing Iran’s own historical figures and popular local rulers, like the Pahlavis, as “illegitimate” or “other.” #Iran #PahlaviReturns
